I'm just curious about this. And was wondering if people that know can shed some light.

So, I get the alert with me reporting people in my past games a lot. (Really happy about that, though unfortunate that the community get's penalized all the time for crappy behavior.) Anyways, I was curious on whether or not these people are actually penalized. Like...is their IP banned for an amount of time or is it just that account that gets banned gone? Cause I like to help the community of those that are like me and don't like playing with people that aren't team players or their goal is to just troll ranked games daily. And I'm wondering if they can just make another account and play? I wanna feel that I'm doing well by ridding other players of people like this, but if they're just able to make another account and keep going. Kinda would feel reporting them after the game and filling out why is useless. [zombie-nunu-tears]

It's not useless because their account can have a lot of money, time, and achievements invested in it, such as Elementalist Lux, Soulstealer Vayne, or Victorious Morgana, etc. For most people, being on good behavior to prevent their hard earned work from being stripped from them is enough. For those who get banned, all of this is lost.

When you receive a notification that your report resulted in a punishment, it's either a chat restriction a temp account ban or permanent account ban as per the punishment tiers in the link above. The majority of players that are punished just once improve their behavior and don't get punished again, so as long as you're making accurate reports it is helping the community.

Certainly there are players that get permabanned and just make a new account and go back to being toxic, but Riot doesn't do IP bans to prevent it; it's very difficult to impossible to enforce a player ban, and IP banning has historically proven to be harmful and ineffective because it hits people not related to the banned player and is also easily circumvented. Most people, regardless of how toxic they are, don't like to lose everything they've worked for though.

IP bans will happen in the 0.01% of cases. most people get a warning. maybe a 2 week ban. scripters and botters get banned in waves like twice a year when the wave comes. gets the people that bought accounts online that where bot leveled too. but honestly if you just wanna play and not level its honestly cheaper. Just dont expect to have your account at the end of the season.

Intentional feeds dont really get banned. Seriously some people are actually that bad. people who buy 1 item 6 times to fill the item bar get banned.

the statistic of toxic people is 5% of players. that means you play 2 games and you should run into 1 toxic person. If you are expecting a trophy. no. if you think you are helping. no. If you are reporting these people because you are salty and just want to see if on the off chance of getting them blocked for 2 weeks. yes.

favorite reason i report people is when i see them type "Report (so-so) for being toxic." when i see that i report. normally because the person is egging on the guy already tilted and that is the line i draw as this person is some white knight holy-er than thou person that is getting reported. Also, because its harassment.

Some people get banned for breaking the meta and spend 2 weeks arguing with riot support till they unban the account anyway.
where are the Singed mains out there?

so.. yeah they make another account and keep playing. if they want.
