I don't understand @NA Boards

Joyi·6/22/2016, 10:38:46 AM·9 votes·1,465 views

I look down the new posts list and all I see are like genuine questions or suggestions or posts where the OP is being genuine and the post is on 0 or -1 downvotes.

Are there actually kids on here that just go around downvoting everything for the sake of it?

Like... Why

Looks like it, honestly.

Besides, the only reason this is an issue is because Riot chose to copy Reddit's Board style. Which has its own large flaws and is designed to... well, it caters to those who do nothing but look at the front page and what's "hot". Is this a forum, or an entertainment device?

Usually, if you have mis-interpreted the situation and are making a post about it, you will be downvoted because you are legitimately wrong. No one downvotes to troll, contrary to your original statement.

Honestly, I'd say either

  • Turn it into something Facebook or more like other forums and only have a "Kudos" or "Like" with no dislikes. Good topics rise to the top. Bad ones fall off. Topics that are just spam, adbots, etc, can be reported. It's a formula that's worked for ages and League boards aren't reddit, whose got a vastly different base to cater to.
  • Turn dislikes into something you have to work more for. Perhaps limit you to so many dislikes per week, making you more mindful of your use. Perhaps give up to six more dislike votes at level 30 (1 dislike allowance per week per 5 levels). I say per week because per day seems like it can be abused more, also if it WAS per day, the per level thing needs to be thrown out the window. In other words, turn dislikes away from being used as a tool for people to anonymously whine with no hope of anyone countering their opinion with a valid argument.

Likes are positive and should never be gated. Whereas dislikes are inherently negative.

What are the upvotes/down votes for anyways? Like what do they do? Do people decide whether or not to read a post based on votes? Sorry I don't really go on forums except this one when I'm bored at work.
