Usually Riot does some kind of christmas gift or special sale.

they didn't even open the legacy vault with a sale like they did it before, you buy the legacy stuff full price

their christmas event it's - buy sweets for 200ip 2 per day on weekends and get 1-2 summoner icons, hope you have fun

I've been ranting on about it for weeks now. This year's Snowdown is nothing but a greed fest. You can't even gift any of the special stuff. And the purchase limits that are everywhere effectively denies people to get anything for free (Snowdown sweets/Snowdown chests).

Fixed that for ya. Welcome to 2016. The year of Riot saying one thing and doing another, and usually that thing is trying to put more money in their pocket by the bucket full.

The worst thing is that they have become so big, they can afford to do that. They really can shit on some players, because they know enough people will suck it up and pay for it to make it okay for themselves.

What even happened to "a game for gamers, by gamers"? It wasn't like this up to season 3/4. RAF program got removed (likely because they didn't see enough reason to having to bribe new players to join anymore).

Then the cost of RP increased due the increased cost of the Dollar (something yet to be reverted, as the the Dollar, to my knowledge, has gone back down again).

Then the promotional sales on skins got removed, 1350 RP skins not getting a sale for the first few days after release (same thing with the ultimate skins). 6 months wait if you wanna save some 5 EUR. A measly sum on its own, but times some Millions, it does add up.

Then these greed events. The PROJECT event for example. 1 Gemstone per day (limited...oops, the limit didn't work for the first couple hours. We'll just apply a maintenance tag, taking the whole thing down for awhile).

Even project was better. rito just rolled out new chests and opened the legacy skin vault partially so they would milk our wallets for christmas. $>players... expecting some greediness nerfs next patch, along with the yasuo ones

The game is free but you complain when they don't give you stuff for free? Riot already gave us hextech crafting, which is completely free. Be grateful.

The game is deceptively free. Meaning you will need to spend like 1000 hours grinding ip just to get a FULL rune setup and a big enough champ pool for some flexibility. Dunno what your hours are worth but I do have a job and family so I just buy rp because its not worth my time away from those things....But that has nothing to do with them breaking tradition and ignoring the holiday.

Technically they broke tradition last year, as they said they don't really care about holiday specific things anymore.

Basically Tencent is Chinese, they don't care about said holidays (that isn't an assumption, that is the reason). Is why the only real "Event holiday" Riot promotes to the moon anymore is Chinese New Years. Funny that.

Their gifts this year are essentially "spend more money on skin sales".

I kinda miss the old events like they used to be : Play this to get this, achieve this to get this. Now it's either you swipe the CC to get the chests or you buy the sweets every weekend ._. I'm kinda disappointed in Riot's shift in Events.
