Survey: Why did you join League?

Pretty straight forward I'd say. I'm trying to collect data on this, so think back to your first days of League. What exactly made you look at this game and go "..Why not?"

I wanted to indulge my inner megalomaniac. Veigar gave me that opportunity and I never looked back.

I also enjoyed the variety of characters and their respective designs; transhumanist cyborgs (Viktor), ninjas (Akali Shen Zed Kennen), freaky aliens (Khazix Velkoz KogMaw RekSai Chogath), classical fairytale magic (Veigar Lulu Annie Maokai Nami Shyvana), ancient Egyptians (Azir Nasus Renekton), and spooky ghosts (Thresh Hecarim Kalista Karthus) all beating the hell out of each other in a reasonably believable setting is cool.

Where else am I going to watch a hamster in a mech (Rumble) punch a disillusioned soldier with a magic sword (Riven) in the face?

My roommate came at me with, "I know you're not super into fantasy games, but there's this pink-haired pyro who I think you'd enjoy playing."

Aaaand, then I played Annie almost exclusively to level 30, haha.

Sort of a mixed bag. I'd heard about it before as this big to do in the world of online games, but I never tried it out. A friend of mine tried it out because a friend of his tried it out, and then got me to try it out. It was pretty fun, but not amazing at first. I went home, installed the game and set up my own account. That's when I found the lore tabs, and suddenly the game turned into one of the most badass, hilarious, and emotional games I'd played. everything suddenly felt 10x more epic in game because I was like "this game has relevance to their whole universe!".

Basically, I heard about it before, a friend got me to try it, but the lore is what got me really hooked.

R.I.P. IoW, you will live on in our memories, just like DFG and FoN...

I told my friends I would be better than them even though they played for 3 years. I won.

Drukyul5/4/2015, 8:00:25 PM4 votes

I wanted to play DotA2 but everyone wanted to play League instead. I'd rather play with friends than play a game I prefer.

I was burnt out on WoW, and needed something to scratch my raiding itch that I didn't have to commit three hours to each time I wanted to play.

Gave up WoW entirely, still playing League, strangely. :P

classmate told me "there is this game, and its pretty fun" I logged in and saw Xin Zhao, I pointed my finger at him and said "I wain this one"

Played him till I reached lvl30, then I created another account and played Xin again.

few years later I am support main and I suck as Xin.

I saw the game, and I liked the game design philosophies. I liked the things they didn't copy from DotA and the things they added.

Then I got into the lore and I loved it. The whole immersive factor, the way the entire UI, from influence points to rune pages to summoning, was explained. It was great. I got some favorite characters, read up about them and was a bit sad there wasn't more. Now one of those favorite characters has been blatantly removed. Trundles replacement with this new power-hungry troll got me to stop caring about lore. I can't invest in the lore anymore, because Riot would just remove another favorite character of mine and hurt me again.

The only reasons I'm still playing now are because the gameplay is good and I got a group of friends to play with. I would've quit hadn't it been for that (I couldn't really enjoy the game during the Freljord patch honestly, it felt hollow).

To be honest, I hated MoBA before, I tried DOTA while ago and I sucked and didn't enjoyed it, so I thought LoL will be boring as hell. However, my boyfriend was playing whole days, and I was bored and couldn't even understand what's going on in this game. I decided to give it a try, just to understand this game so I can watch him playing at least. And well, now I am nearly level 30, love playing League, and big LCS fan (and before I was like 'watching someone playing video game and be excited about it? it's stupid').

Some friends brought back beta codes from PAX (yes, I've been playing this game since beta)

I played for a bit, got bored, quit. A few months later they got me back into it after the release. Shen was out by that point. I was playing a game when my friend said, "You can dash through that wall"

You can dash through that wall

YOU CAN DASH THROUGH THAT WALL

And I had my first bad ass ninja moment. I was hooked.

I started playing league because I thought the PvP was better than WoW and I only play most games for PvP.

I played Pokemon Online, but then friends of that game started playing League, we were all in a clan and this game really fucked us up hard because 60% of the players we had went here.

The first months everytime they told me to come here I said them that no, that I enjoyed PO a lot and this game sucked.

But yeah, the clan was doomed and we were like 5 active members out of the 25+ we had in the start, and finally I accepted to give it a try and was quite fun.

But anyways I had the plan to play half the time here and the other in PO.

Duh, I didn't play PO anymore after having that decision, I honestly feel bad still after 2 and a half years for leaving the team I put a lot of effort into, I connected two are three times to were the clan is playing right now (Pokemon Showdown) and looks like they are still there, but far from the awesome team we had back then, even the forum we had is closed :(

hon started to suck and dota 2 wasnt a thing yet.

BastionKross5/5/2015, 12:33:06 PM1 votes

I was looking for a MOBA, and League:

A) Was free B) Had low minimum system requirements (toaster OP) C) Looked easier than the alternatives (No creep deny, infinite teleports home)

FarRockBF5/5/2015, 12:38:02 PM1 votes

Battleforge shut down :(

Everyone else on Earth was playing League so I joined.

I heard a few friends talking about it for a couple weeks and finally decided to join in and find out what it was all about. They started "teaching" me how to play, (more of yelling at me to go do this or go buy this item over my shoulder.) It was fun at first but I grew annoyed of no one doing anything in my games. My friends talked as if they were so good, so I told them I would be better than them. Few months later I finally get to lvl 30 with them and my main at the time, WuKong, showed them what was up...(It was them...) Today I am the one teaching them.

I was actually contemptuous of League at first because I played Storm of the Imperial Sanctum on Starcraft and this game felt so much slower. Additionally, you couldn't deny minions and I'd have great fun playing a champ in SotIS and reaching level 5 while the enemies are still level 2 due to denies. (Yes, I was a DoTA-clone snob) They also had some items that I really liked (hello Khydarian Absorber and components), had STR/AGI/INT scaling, and some of the champions were shadow beings that wielded double scythe blades. (RIP Shadow.Geminus, you will be missed)

Then I suddenly got sick of SotIS after a few completely broken champions were released and the disconnect issues throwing games at the start (people can't reconnect to a Starcraft game for...reasons), so I switched to LoL and have been playing fairly consistently for years.

wow was boring and my mates we're playing this, they've all gone back to wow but i don't think it'll ever be good again really

I'd say a friend convinced me.

Convinced meaning he arrived with an USB drive and told me to pass it to my computer.

Icestar11865/19/2015, 8:05:32 PM1 votes

A friend played it and it sounded cool, but I also really liked the lore.

It rates hign on another website (mmohut) and it still does. It's right pretty much best free game out there you are going to get.

I chose "Other". One time my cousin came to my house with his laptop to stay over and he played League in early S2. He was playing Akali and was fed as balls. My, how times have changed. I called it stupid because I only played RPG games, but then was eventually sick of them and wanted variety and different kinds of gameplay, moving to games like Dragonica (now Dragon Saga), Grand Chase (which coincidentally closed recently), and Vindictus. Eventually, I stumbled upon League only about 3 months later ironically, and my brother, and other cousin and I all eventually learned the ropes together. Fizz and Ziggs were the first people to catch my eye.

I was a Dota player for more than eight years. From Dota to Dota2, i can't remember how many matches i have played. My mmr is around 4500. Last summer i met my girlfriend, who played League about a year. She told me to play this game with her while i still thought League is a simple game. Ashe is the first champ i used. She's really like Drow Ranger, or you can say her original name Traxex. Then i just played with her for a year. That's it.

Totalis5/5/2015, 5:14:12 AM1 votes

I guess it would be a combination of 1 and 3. We recently had purchased a new computer, one that could actually handle online games and my brother's friend showed my brother (and, by extension, me) the game. My brother tried it, and I just blew it off as a stupid game. But for some reason or another I went on the wiki and the sheer variety of the champions and all there stories reeled me in. reading about all their abilities and lores made me really want to play, and thus I did.

Astronomity5/5/2015, 5:18:09 AM1 votes

I legitimately just was bored and googled "good pc games to play" during Thanksgiving end of Season 3 and have been playing since.

Virgin Ray5/5/2015, 5:49:10 AM1 votes

I couldn't get passed a website because this ad kept showing on my screen every time I clicked another button on ROBLOX, so I was like "Fine, you want me to play your damn game?! FINE!, Then I got addicted.

My stepbrother used to play SC2 when he was younger, which kinda got me interested in WoW and got my older brother to play other games. A few years ago, I saw him playing LoL once and it was during Ahri's release and I really liked her design and character. The first time I played I ragequitted, then started playing again after a few months. Needless to say, I don't regret it.

Nagirah5/5/2015, 8:09:07 AM1 votes

My friend forced me even though I hated this game early levels due to getting shitted on all the time. Glad he helped me survive through the pre30 phase.

Two friends(DarkGhostling, Vayning) convinced me. They(as a joke) told me to go to the Korean server. I COULD have gone onto the Korean Server like my nationality, but I just went NA, maybe because of my friends(fuck advice). I still regret nothing
