More bans per game?

When league of legends was created 6 bans in a game was a lot. There were only 40 champions back then, so you could get rid of most of what you considered to be big threats and pick the rest yourself. As more champions are progressively added to league (we're at over 100 now), the value of bans has declined outside of banning away someones comfort champion, because let's face it, there are too many strong champions to ban all of.

So it could be a good idea to add more bans to compensate for the increased number of champions and decrease the amount of time a team has to make them so the bans phase doesn't take too long. (180 seconds feels like forever already)

Thoughts?

It's time to have more bans (self.leagueoflegends)

Since the dawn of League, the number of bans at champion select has remained constant- 3 for each side. So let's say 50 champions with 6 bans= 12%. Allowing for the growth in the champion pool, an equivalent percentage would be nearly 14 bans. Now that is going to scare a lot of you- especially those who play one or two champions or the FOTM. Unless you are playing Sion, Poppy, or Galio- there is a real risk that all that time you've spent being a tunnel vision specialist could be for naught. But consider that watching the championship series was an endless loop of pick or ban Ahri, Zed, Kassadin, Orianna, Thresh, Vayne, Twisted Fate, Fizz, Elise, Zac, or Shen. In a word: boring. If the Pro Player hovered teasingly over Mordekaiser, Zilean, or (heaven forfend) Teemo- the crowd went wild. The shoutcasters spoke breathlessly about the danger of the Pro Player with a champion pool of 5 or even 8- this out of 116 champions! It's past time to see some really interesting and experimental combos of champions and the only way to do that is to 'encourage' players to broaden their skillset. Discuss amongst yourselves.

How about 12 bans per game? I think thats right.. even though PVP has to go through it to make it fair.

12% makes it 14 bans per game, and 24 champs required to play ranked, which is fine by me. But it would also fill every ranked game you play with trolls that have never played the champ before, because the 2 champs they knew how to play were banned. Hooray for extending your champion pools, but I doubt we'll get much backing for this idea.

I agree whole heartedly that there should be more bans! Each match makes me more and more frustrated that there are so many more champs and the bans haven't kept up to compensate. I can easily name 10 champs I want banned per match. I actually was gonna create a thread about this when I decided to search first and find I am not alone.

Agreed more bans would help. it would be disruptive in a good way.
