Urf 2016

Now you may have heard many bring back Urf posts over the past 24 hours that begin with "Urf please" or "Riot why no Urf". This discussion is designed to examine the frustration behind the lack of Urf this year and express the feelings of the general community more eloquently. The fact that Urf didn't appear this year was a disappointment that was made worse by its replacement--the boring Draven Draven event. Now the common excuse is to talk about the implementation of the rotating game mode queue, but the community has (from what I can tell) three common problems with this...

  1. Instead of the usual two weeks of fun, Urf is now limited to 2 games at a time, two times a year. This is a problem for many people because these weekends might be a time when a player is out of town. Last year, I missed the first 3 days of Urf but I could still look forward to 12 days of Urf.
  2. Urf is by far the most popular event, but with the implementation of rotating game modes. It is now available for less time than before, and an equal amount of time as less popular game modes like Ascension. Not many people in the community are screaming for One for All today, but the communities favorite game mode is noticeably absent.
  3. There is currently a spot for a permanent new game mode now that dominion has been completely removed, so it is perfectly possible for a new game mode to take its place.

SOLUTION: On the home page create a community poll where people can vote for which game mode they want to replace Dominion. At this point people don't care if Urf is new, people would rather be able to play a game of Urf to get over a tough loss.

Comment below on your opinion about Urf, the Draven Draven event, rotating game mode queue, and what you think should happen.

I'm extremely upset about the "no urf right away" idea this year. Change is good, but we don't have to change everything. Urf is clearly everyone's favorite game mode, so I don't see the point in shortening the time that we actually get to play it for the entire year.. I also wanted to touch on my feelings about Draven Draven. Personally, I think Draven Draven was a complete waste of their time. It was probably the stupidest "game mode" I have ever played, if it could even be considered a game mode. It was nothing more than a cover up for the fact that Riot wouldn't be giving us Urf for April Fools this year.

Just make it a custom game. I really don't think having it as a custom game is going to kill the regular modes like people think will happen.

The rotating mode queue already is Riot's replacement for Dominion. Furthermore, adding URF as a permanent queue would be a terrible idea unless Riot actually changes its policy on Alternate Maps. URF is heavily susceptible to stagnation, so it'd quickly feel stale without regular updates. If even Dominion succumbed to Riot's neglect, then there's little chance for URF, whose audience niche overlaps with ARAM's and whose gameplay echoes SR's, to thrive.

Honestly, I would only like one answer- why can't URF become a permanent game mode? Would it maybe occupy too many players? Or is URF just not something Riot wants to have as a PGM...
