Smite Item Extra Gold, and burden of knowledge.

Jungler Items now give extra gold to junglers for clearing camps. Part of the upside is balanced by lowering the base gold gain from camps.

For the first time, a game changer THIS big has been introduced. Sure, there were things that a player should know to win more, like

  • Galio's trail actually does something.
  • Hit the opponents when Vlad ults them.
  • GRAB THE LANTERN.

But this time, it's different. Now, the thing you should be doing does not benefit you directly. You don't get more damage. You don't escape from the fight. You actually lose money if you leave the camp to the jungler. Using the mechanic does not benefit you. It benefits your teammate. And this concept is really hard to grasp by some players. It is the Blue Buff Dilemma with every camp. Should i leave it to someone, who will benefit more? Or do I take the responsibility and take it myself?

Now, every game i need to explicitly inform my teammates that they are losing the team 20 gold when they take a jungle camp (soon 30). It is getting boring.

Sure, it is usually better for the adc to get gold. But almost always not if it is 30% less than the jungler would get.

So i propose, for the sake of clarity, introduce a new loading screen tip: "Champions without smite get less gold for killing large monsters". In this, negative way. Why not "Junglers get more..."? People care more when they have things taken away from them, rather than when someone else does not benefit.

I agree that the tip should be added.

That said, there isn't a huge problem with others taking camps. The jungler shouldn't be doing full jungle clears once mid game rolls around, he should be more involved with the team and should opportunistically take camps when he gets the chance. Similarly, laners should take camps when the opportunity arises assuming the jungler isn't there trying to take it.

On the flip side, if the jungler leaves the birds there for 3 or 4 minutes, that's significantly less gold for the team than if you let us farm it, even if it inconveniences your route.

Yeah, I only do one full clear, and I only actually full clear with one jungler (The reason only one full clear, granted, is because blue buff goes to my mid laner on rek'sai because I don't need it like at all, but the exp rush at game start is so important). Honestly, if they're very close to a level, or just about to be able to get that item? I'd rather they take the camp. At that point, it's a balance between farming and ganking after the first full clear, and sometimes the laners do need it more, even when they get less from it.

That being said, I really wish people would stop taking the chickens. :( Or at least wait long enough for me to drop the smite on it. Smite benefit is so important.

smite is now a viable lane spell. most junglers aren't going to do more than one or two clears before going into lanes for team fights. you could always grab poachers knife as a laner and steal from the enemy jungle if its that big of an issue.
