You can call as few or as many your "main" as you want, but you want to be experienced with several in each role. The New Champion Select means you can play down to a minimum of 2 roles and never have to branch out, but having a little experience in the others is useful for your game knowledge. I personally say I "main" only Nami, but I've got enough experience that I'm not screwed when she's not available or I have to take another role.

One is enough. Although if you dabble a little bit with a side boy things will be alright.

in my opinion you should main at least 2 champs for 3 roles so if one gets taken you aren't sol.

Pick 2 mains for 2 roles. If one gets picked or banned, then you have another to play.

"Main" as a term usually describes the champion or position you play the most often, so you only have one main. However, if you're trying to lineate a good number for champions to dedicate yourself to, that's an age old question you'll have to ponder yourself. In my opinion, you need 3 for each position you intend to queue for in ranked.

You can only main one champion. It's your main champion. That's why it's called your main lol. It stems from party system RPGs. You had your main who was always in your party fucking things up, and the rest were there mostly to support your main and fill up space.

Depends on the person. If you are fine maining a single champion, then good for you.

Personally, I would not be happy to main a single champion since it would reduce my flexibility in picks, make it more difficult to build team composition and (most importantly) I would find it quite boring.

I have ~10 champion I enjoy playing greatly in the jungle and another ~6 I enjoy playing in the top lane, plus ~3 champions for the other roles. While I can and have played more champions aside from them, they are my "main" picks for those roles.

I have learned how to play the other roles during the previous seasons (so that I could cover and understand every role adequately), so I try to keep a few general picks there for when I feel like practicing it. My main roles have a large enough pool of champions I enjoy that I generally have a couple for every situation and I am very difficult to actually pick/ban out.

Maining one champ is fine as long as you are VERY comfortable on at least 4-5 others. I don't play any one champ enough to consider it my main, but I have at least a dozen that I feel comfortable picking anytime, depending on my role.

in the old days you would need to be skilled with 3 from each role, but with the new que system you can always get the 2 roles you want. Learn 3 champs for each of those 2 roles and get really good with them. Make sure they are for different situations, for example dont main 3 AD assassins mid. Learn one AD, one AP, one Tank etc. Assuming you play adc, there are a bit less options; but if you already main draven, try to pick up a team based ADC like Siver, and an ADC you can pick if your team is already AD heavy.. something like ezreal or corki.
