His new w and passive are decent but his q is.. well lets face it "GARBAGE". It should be like ori q or something more useful. And his w should be a skill shot.. like akali shroud. Please reconsider this before release on live. And why would you out of knowwhere rework shen when there is certain champs 
that need it worse..??????
I agree that Shen has no range now, and it kind of bothers me. I think reducing the cooldown on his E would help him stick to targets better.
Other than that, his Q is good. It's a good dueling mechanism and is a great replacement for his passive, and has counterplay. As much as I'll miss the Q-sniping to get kills that are running off, Shen is still pretty much the same champion he was before, just more sustained damage rather than burst.

I hope you realize that Shen was in dire need of a rework because he was one of the most boring champions for people to play against. You can't really avoid his Q damage, his laning phase sustain was nerfed to complete garbage because it was too oppressing for champions without sustain, and his W was the most boring usable ability in the game. Personally, I love Shen, and his VU and new kit are welcome in my eyes. There are just some of the new bells and whistles they need to tune up and things to fix.
Also, Taric is getting his rework RIGHT AFTER SHEN. Like, wait a month or two and it'll be released. Maybe less.
His rework has been scheduled for a long time and the team working on him is different than Taric's team. Just a note.
Having the Q work like an Ori Q would be amazing, though in that case the W should still be centered on it.
His Q is my only real concern about the rework. Based on his current kit he is the new Leona. No longer has options for trading beyond the all-in. Really disappointing. No poke at all. The Q comparison to Orianna's ball seems like a very reasonable solution. Hopefully they are open to addressing this.
reworking shen is 1 thing.. but his V.U. is trash.. and his q is trash that is it. the rest is decent
