Why do I even bother?

Here I am, playing ranked, trying to achieve a rank that isn't laughably bad. I pick Ahri, she's my favorite champion, and the one I play the best. The enemy laner picks Lux, Veigar, Annie, Talon, Diana, champions like that. The game starts, I'm there hitting my skillshots, getting picks, buying items specifically to counter the enemies who are fed. I outfarm the enemy, I kill him in lane several times, but in the end he has some sort of point and click nuke that he manages to hit me with and I die. My team couldn't escape the 5v4 engage and they get aced - we lose the game. This broke me. It made me wonder: why am I here, playing a champion that's (arguably) balanced and takes some skill to play? This game is far from balanced and there are other champions who are much stronger than Ahri, or easier, or both. I pick a champion that requires hitting skillshots to be effective, while my opponent picks Annie or Veigar, who are literally "press R to win", or Lux, who has stupid range and a poke ability (E) that is pretty much TARGETED unless your movespeed is >350, or Malzahar, with a point and click suppression that also does ridiculous damage. I need to be at least 10x more skilled than my opponent to win lane as I start the game with a disadvantage just because I decided to pick a champion that actually has counterplay. If I play top, 99% of the time the enemy is a random juggernaut that somehow didn't get banned, or Fiora, and of course they effortlessly steamroll my team (even if I destroy them early!) because of the extremely high numbers in their kits and their extremely low difficulty. If I play support, while I'm there playing something like Leona, who has 2 skillshots and no way back after engaging - so if your team doesn't help you, you're dead - the enemy has Thresh or Janna. Thresh has the best support kit in the game BY FAR, and Janna is a point and click champion that rewards the player so much for just pressing E on an ally. It is clear that this game is not about skill as much as it is about abusing the very poor work done by Riot's balancing team. Yes, skill IS a factor and you CAN win games if you mechanically destroy your opponents. But there are champions with a 40% winrate, and others with 65% (I know Ahri has a 52% winrate as of now, she is by no means a weak champion, but my god she isn't op either. She is a safe pick and nothing else.) The ranked system is very unforgiving and it does not care about how well you played or how hard the champion you were playing is, only if you won or lost. You went 20/0 with Draven or Cassiopeia or Azir but lost? Goodbye LP. You went 5/5 with Annie or Katarina or Garen and won? Great job, enjoy your promotion! Look at the high elo players, they all got there playing whatever was op in each patch. Amazing how early this year there were so many Sejuani mains in diamond right? And now, so many devourer jungler mains in high elo :o must be a coincidence. Only maybe 1% of high elo players got there maining something that isn't a fotm unbalanced champion, and even then it took them years of playing and they most likely one trick that champion. The fact that you're pretty much FORCED to play op champions to climb, and the fact that there EXIST op champions in the first place only show how poorly designed the game is. I had some fun playing Ahri but eventually I got tired of getting "outskilled" and "outplayed" by a Veigar ult, an Annie ult, a random crit or % hp true damage. So I'm off to spam whatever easiest champion I own, in hopes of finally getting from plat 1 to diamond 5. I don't even want to play Ahri anymore, I feel like I'm just wasting my time when I pick her. I'll get diamond and then I'll probably just quit because this game is disgusting now. I regret buying skins. See ya.

Every champion that you play has advantages, like hard hitting single target nukes, but many have strong disadvantages, like no mobility. It's up to the player to capitalize on the opponents weakness.

I mean... those champions aren't OP... you just have to play a certain way to beat them. I'm surprised that if you are indeed plat 1 you feel this way. Veigar, for instance, is totally shut down by avoiding stuns and a well timed zhonyas on his ult

First of all, learn an ad mid for veigar. Also, I'm hesitant to give any other advice, because if you are losing with a champ like ahri, you are definitely doing something wrong. Ahri's kit is one of the most adaptable in the game, being a kite mage she has a high amount of damage, safety, and mobility at the cost of having to land a skill-shot or two. If you actually can play ahri well, then there should be very little matchups that you can't dominate or at the very least break even in.

That being said, I just wouldn't play anything ap into veigar period. There are many good ad mids that you can run into him like: talon, zed, yasuo, riven, varus, or wukong.

Wait. Ahri qith her mobility... complaining about veigar.

As hilarious as that is, let me explain:

  1. if you go mpen build he can't kill you if he somehow catches you (shame on you if he does)
  2. did i mention he's immobile?
  3. unlike veigar, annie... yeah... her point and click ranged aoe nuke is retarded, because its *instant( veigar's isn't, unless you forget what it does.
  4. you have a mobile champion.... and don't use it's ... mobility? Let me guess you go full ap burst assassin ksing your entire team claiming you're carrying and enemy noob champs just got lucky because you ignored 1-3? :P
  5. No.

Yeah, I really don't believe Riot tries to actually balance this game. : /

Since Riot is an F2P company, they'll do whatever it takes to make money, and couldn't care less about their game so long as it makes money, right? That creates two issues:

  • First is that Riot won't reward people for playing harder champs. So, the majority of gamers are "casual," meaning that they're too lazy or just don't care enough to actually try and win in whatever game they play (these are the people who first bought into and enabled the scam that is F2P). Since Riot is after money, they will do whatever it takes to attract these people. When you are so lazy that even playing video games is hard for you, they're going to make it easy to win in order to make the lazies feel good about themselves and be more likely to spend RP on skins and whatnot. If you had to actually try to win, then the "casuals" would give up and not throw money at Riot.

-- Now, casuals do exist in the sense that some people just play for fun and don't dedicate a lot of time to the game. They are real casuals. Then there are "casuals," who try to hide behind that name to disguise their laziness and entitled attitude.

  • Second is that Riot makes money through selling skins. If every champion was balanced perfectly, there wouldn't be any crowd favorites that bring in a lot of money. If Riot shifts things around every now and then, they can get people to buy skins for new champions, making Riot that much more money. If the game was static, Riot wouldn't make as much money as they do.

So, because League is "F2P," Riot doesn't actually try to balance the game, because they make more money off an unbalanced game than a balanced one.

Now, I'm not saying this is absolutely how things are, this is just my guess.
