bragging a bit, but mostly analysis
before I get into analysis let me just say: oh. my. god, what a rush! 30/7, triple and quadra kills out the wazoo, stupid amounts of firepower... this game had it all!
ok, but why did this end well? I'm not exactly MLG material over here.
firstly, let's look at my team. while we were short a player, we still had
- 2 tanks
- 4 people with cc of some sort.
- a source of damage
so, assuming we play correctly, we have quite a pick comp. someone missteps, gets league of stunlocked while the damage dealer dances on his face.
we did, that, but looking at what we could have done better...
- I took entirely too much farm. this turned out well this time, but in other circumstances this could leave my allies starved, making it basically a 1v5.
- I dunno what sona was doing with two large sources of mana on ARAM, which gives passive mana regen anyway. if she had built a source of AP instead, she could have given the team a much-needed source of magic damage and burst damage.
now let's look at the opposing team. they had
- a strong support choice that we'd have to play around no matter what.
- 3 people with strong, long-ranged damage
- 2 people with powerful disengages
- an assassin.
assuming they play correctly, they had a strong poke comp capable of constantly dealing long-ranged damage until they choose to engage and clean up.
what they did wrong was
- they needed
. our strategy depended on CC. by limiting our cc, they'd limit our effectiveness. - the kayle tried to be a dps on a team full of dps. she should have focused on AP, CDR and mana regen. this would have allowed her to heal her team to some extent, and drop more tide-turning ults while still maintaining decent damage through her rightous fury and reckoning abilities
- I dunno what kog'maw was doing. maybe he was trying to copy my build? he grabbed
, which was a mistake in and of itself- he was on a poke team and needed to use his abilities to poke more than he needed the damage. but then he grabbed runaan's, which never synergises with IE, and only works with kg'maw because of his on-hit ability. ...which he didn't improve on. he should have focused on AD and mana regen, allowing him to use his ult to maximum effectiveness while still maintaining autoattack damage. also, boots1? really? he had enough gold to upgrade. I don't know what happened on the other team's chat, but I think this guy just gave up. - they didn't build armor, despite the fact that all our damage was AD. with my build, a single
would have crippled our offense significantly
I imagine my build would probablhy raise a few eyebrows, so let me explain why: with our side outnumbered, I needed to spread the damage around, as it were. this build trades some duel potential in favor of extremely strong AOE damage.
allows me to hit three targets, each with an AOE from jinx's rockets. assuming they're close enough (and due to us being outnumbered, this was likely) each champion will be hit three times. the high AD and armor pen cranked that damage up to 11.
added more damage to each target and prevented them from tanking me with large amounts of HP. the drawback being lower damage to a single target- an acceptable trade-off in the circumstances.
