Wireless anything has delay. So yes when you click with a mouse or type a key on a keyboard it will be slightly slower then if it was hard wired to the computer, Same goes for hard wiring it to your router and using wifi. So the ping will probably go up due to this but the amount i am unsure of.

As Big Bad Doge said, a wired connection will always be faster than a wireless one. More important than the speed of your connection on a wireless network, is the STABILITY of said connection. (ex the router is downstairs and you are 2 floors above it usually = problem)

Hi, if you would like to test the stability of your connection, run the following command: ping -t -4 104.160.131.1 in command prompt ( search through the start menu for it.)

let it run for maybe a minute.

All you need to keep an eye out for is the time, which shouldn't be spiking. Also keep an eye out for "Request timed out", which basically means the packet went missing on the way to or from the server (in this case it is google's servers).

If you have no issues, then you connection should be fine. You can run this command before playing games too, if you want to make sure everything will run smoothly.

Wireless does have a delay compared to a wired connection, but ping isn't affected as much by your internet speed as by things like your proximity to the server and the route that packets take to reach it. Depending on the quality of wireless signal you're getting you may not notice a difference, if you do then you could try a couple thing to resolve it, such as re positioning the modem or router to get a better signal, if it's can stand up vertically then this can help your signal. Another thing to try is logging into the wireless access point by entering its IP address into your browsers address bar and changing the wireless channel, for 2.4 Ghz you want to try channels 1, 6 and 11 for best results.

Other than that the best thing would just be to get another cable, they're dirt cheap.
