I've got it - bring back the HUD from '09 beta!

With all the recent HUD debate, I realized the solution: Don't just go back, go ALL the way back!

HUD 2009 was elegance, usefulness, and visual clarity combined. Just check out these features:

Giant champion portrait: The first thing you'll notice, looming over everything else, is the huge champion portrait. Control of your champion is the primary element of gameplay. Logically, this should be reflected in the UI. It adds immersion, and makes sure we wont forget which champion were playing (this is especially helpful for Mundo).

Large base TP icon: As the base teleport is the only spell you'll consistently access, regardless of champion or summoner spells, it deserves a prominent spot next to the champion portrait. The large icon size reminds us that good players should use the "b" button tens, if not hundreds, of times.

Removal of MR stat: Unlike physical damage, magic has very mysterious properties. It stands to reason that powers of magical resistance should be equally ambiguous. It also lets new players know that MR isn't a very important stat.

Foot-long mana and health bars. Let's face it, champions in the League are powerful. What is it saying about these characters if they're running around the rift with dinky little health/mana bars? Perhaps we should even consider making them longer, stretching them around the corners of the screen.

Large zoom-in and zoom-out buttons Zooming in is the secret strategy pro players don't want you to know about. It isn't fair for Riot to hide this from novice players. Give us all a chance to get to diamond - bring the zoom buttons back!

Summoner name: This definitely belongs on the HUD. Nuff said.

Big, non-symmetrical frame: Small, symmetrical HUDS are boring. We&'re gamers, not dusty old neat-freak librarians. C'mon Riot, spice things up a bit!

Well, there you have it folks. I think the facts speak for themselves. Riot, you really need to go back to your roots on this one. Also, did you guys check out that champion art? I think it's time for a "throwback" splash update across the board. Let's go Riot, this is the LoL that Gotham deserves.

Lost it here. I really love this post, it reminds me of the complaints people have with the new HUD.

Why is no one asking the real questions? Why is that Ashe level 12 while her XP bar shows that she should be level 15? Why is the icon of Ashe's E identical to the icon of Teemo's ult? After some research, Riot apparently used to be lazy with icons. Wasn't Ashe's E using the Smite icon for a while too? Whatever. That doesn't explain the level thingy. And seriously, was there no magic resistance or was it just hidden? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

As someone who joined mid season 4, I must say....

HOLY SHIT THAT LOOKS SO COOL HAHA

so fuckin retro, like a PS1 game.

Vistha Kai8/1/2015, 9:57:59 AM6 votes

This HUD is so bad, I'd use it 24/7.

PS. I see the mini map wasn't changed since beta.

Is none gonna say anything about the Fab Taric Icon? Or the double boots Ash? Or the AD/Supp Taric?

Damn what the fuck happened in 2009?

fantastic dud8/2/2015, 12:56:28 AM3 votes

bring dodge chance back?

Rozzeta8/1/2015, 9:57:13 PM3 votes

Lol. Even more funny than the post itself are the comments of those who either didn't get it, or just plain don't believe this HUD actually existed.

This also shows how much does Taric need a VU. They guy looks the same as 6 years ago.

Just Blame Jenny8/2/2015, 12:56:52 AM2 votes

I can't believe Riot moved away from this awesome UI! I already thought the former UI was better than the new one; the new one is just too damned utilitarian. But here we have one that's even sexier!

Riot, bring this back, please. Current UI is a travesty.

I didn't play during that time and have no experience with that HUD, also i'm not sure how serious this post is... personal issues with it: It takes up a lot of space. I don't think the new hud is worth the space saving it has but i don't want to go backwards. No MR stat. mr is important. General lack of stats anyway. Art is old (not the abilities/portraits but the hud itself) although i assume it would be updated.

Most of your points seems like jokes so that is why i'm not sure this is serious. Although i like having summoner name on it, as long as that means I can see ALLY/ENEMY summoner and champion names without having to hover over an icons or hunt for them in game (hint hint tab screen)

Not really a fan of this either, but I'd still prefer it over this new hud.

Markus Kruber8/3/2015, 4:24:06 AM1 votes

We don't need that thing called the bottom portion of the screen. The bottom portion's really just there for show.

The old HUD is bad. All the info is spread out, stats are hard to find, and half the buff/debuff are spread out

Trolololol~

Bard in a Diaper8/1/2015, 10:27:27 PM1 votes

the beta HUD is better then the new one so jokes on you

Testalyrica8/1/2015, 10:54:37 PM1 votes

This hud is actually pretty damn sexy, this new hud is utter crap, plus the moved way to much around. I feel they should of kept it all the same, takes up to much room with nothing to offer unlike this hud. Can we either revert back, or gain this hud i am sure either one of those would make 90% of the community happy.

All Day Tay Tay8/1/2015, 10:55:29 PM1 votes
