Reporting Madness

I hope I speak for the majority when I say reporting and report threats in this game are ludicrous.

I'm a pretty middle-of-the-road player; I enjoy the game (minus my teammates when we're losing a game, who nearly always seem to be ridiculously toxic), but I'm afraid to do badly in it... not because people will call names or be upset - it's a game where theoretically the average win/loss ratio is 50/50 and you have a mute button for a reason - but because the players will threaten to abuse the reporting functionality on you if you do poorly.

To be threatened to get reported for intentionally feeding when you do poorly but you're genuinely trying is awful. to get reported for 'unskilled player' is worse; not because I think Riot does too much about those reports, but because you can't argue that point with your teammates: you are legitimately able to get reported for not doing well. As if that's something that doesn't happen at least to someone EVERY game.

Worse, while I want to mute most players when I'm on the losing team I feel like I can't, because I have to respond to their threats to report or else the tribunal won't see me in chat, which could EASILY justify refusing to communicate or, if I'm doing poorly, intentionally feeding.

Hell, I've had people blatantly say in chat that they're going to report me for being afk, then while I'm legitimately out playing the game, they start typing in the chat that I'm sitting at base... because on the chat logs the tribunal won't know who to believe.

So basically, if you're losing a game and that game includes toxic players (most of the LoL community) what do you do? You don't want to sit there and get chewed out, but you also don't want to mute them and get legitimately reported... ;_;
