for like 3.5 hrs, i've been arguing with my friend whether garen is op or not

i said garen is not op because

falls off late game hard
ult doesnt scale with any items
useless tank
- i say useless tank since tanks have armor, magic resist, hp, buff for team, hard cc, ability to lock down target, peel for squishes, ability to start teamfight. But garen has only 3, which any champ can get, armor, mr, and hp
silence is only cc
there are much more viable toplaners currently like ryze, maokai etc
no mobility, no dash, no blink (excluding summoners)
ult deals magic damage while stats garen could get is armor pens like black cleaver

according to my friend, he said, garen can q, e while silenced and ult and its guaranteed kill, which i think its wrong

wut i think is that if garen is op, why dont people play him more frequently and why wont lcs play garen

Although I'd argue that Garen never fell off late game when played correctly it is much easier to scale into the late game now. His weakest point is actually his early game now, which again is not exactly weak. His ult scales with enemy health, which makes it fantastic for quickly killing a very disruptive tank while peeling for your team.

I would also say you should not play him as a tank. If you do you'll have a very beefy champ, but he doesn't have enough CC to make up the difference. He doesn't need much damage, but the stat combo on Black Cleaver can keep his damage relevant for the entire game while building tank. Always build and play him as a bruiser.

It's very cheesy to say, but death truly is the strongest CC. A well played Garen can handle a late game Yi or Vayne in a 1v1. A squishy target honestly will die to a full spin, a Q, and his ult, though in reality that is often a hard thing to pull off due to kiting.

Is he OP? No, not in the slightest, but he is a solid champion who is in a great balance position.

Your friend is right. I was playing garen the other day, and here's how a fight went out. Q then E, than Ult, and I got the kill. It was unbelievable. I went 28 and 18 with him. The sad part is, like you said, he falls off late game.
