Would it be possible to play the release day LoL?

Since the game was physically released a long time ago, the CD should have all the original files and everything untouched. Theoretically could someone hack this version of the game to prevent it from updating and allow them to play offline (with bots obviously)?

I think it would be really neat to see how League was way back then (videos of that time are pretty rare)!

Oh god, League was awful back then. You dont want to play old League, trust me.

This is from the end of Season 1, right before preseason S2.

And this is from Season 2

I'm very much aware of how awful League used to be and that's exactly why I would love to have the chance to play it. The bad graphics, the awkward interface, and the ridiculous abilities, I find immensely fascinating and I wish I could experience them first hand.

Playing with bots is still online so no unless you got it to work a way for it to be completely offline

As long as the AI isn't completely server side it should be possible. I mean people have made a cracked version before so I don't see why they couldn't do it for the original version.

In "Ask Riot", they said they had trouble making old builds work and the effort required to get them running wasn't worth it, so the answer is no.

I know Riot probably won't as they have to spend a lot of resources to get it to work with the current tech, but I wasn't asking if Riot could do this lol. Hence the whole "hack an old version to not update" part.
