Current game, playing and pro scene
So Rito thinks that more action = more fun when it comes to things like Worlds and stuff. "People want to see action, flashy play, and short matches!" This, however, puts the game in a bad state for everyone else. First blood, and first tower blood, now make the game pretty one-sided. Much more than in previous seasons. Towers are also made of paper. I don't think I've ever seen towers fall this hard, except during the 5 man top, teleport joke meta that existed for a short time.
Why is it wrong that this is what people want? That's simple. You rarely see any outplays anymore. Once a team gets ahead, they basically stay there. I was watching the LCK matches last night, and MVP vs BBQ was boring. I had more fun watching Twitch chat than the game, because the games were over the first time something happened. Game 2: LeBlanc got a double kill early, proceeded to win. That game ended with a kill score of 14-1. LB had 10 of those. That is not okay. Game 3: Taliyah gets a penta at one point (I barely watched this game after that).
Point being, it used to be, "Champion got an early kill, this will really help their mid-late game and should allow them to bully in the early much easier." Now we have games ending at 30 minutes for pros. Is this what Riot wanted? Yes. And you know what? That is exciting. If you either don't play the game yourself, or play it super casually (which I do now because of the current state of the game). However, if you're like me, you enjoyed the longer games. Seeing how they planned their rotations, their mostly even team fights, trying to catch people out, etc. It was entertaining. It also gave the shoutcasters things to talk about, "What are they planning? Look at the way they move. Trying for a pick, rotating to objective after." Last night, they spent a good portion of it talking about chicken (because Korean BBQ) and the weather. THE WEATHER.
In conclusion, the game doesn't feel like it's in a good state. There are plenty of posts on the board "Games too snowbally, games ending early, etc." I'm not the only one that sees it, everyone does. It doesn't feel good, and if last night is an indication, it isn't fun to watch either. This isn't the League I used to know, and while that isn't inherently a bad thing, it's starting to go to a bad place.
TL;DR: Game is in a bad state due to the new snowball nature. Not fun to play, not fun to watch either.
