top level korean pros rage when they get above 20 ping

so why do i get 70 on na? i should apply for network design so i can help these kiddies do something smart. All you do is make another server on the east and the middle or put one fairly close to the middle so that anyone thats not on the coast of the country has to suffer. Whoevers brainless idea in the first place to put a server for an entire country on the coast of santa monica? seriously whoever thought of that needs to be fired asap xD they have no idea how internet works. I also like how phase 3 of their whole base station of networks is to finally move that peice of shit resting place that they put the main server on. "mark merill- i know guys lets put the server where we live on the coast so that we get the best connection nothing can go wrong with that" oh shit our game got big? we'll just make them move over to another state to either play or just not play at all! great marketing big guy 5 years later you guys finally figured out oh shit north america is shit at its own game wonder if koreans getting 5 ping and americans getting 120 has anything to do with how many people can develop

Wait 3 months and check again. They can't just flip a switch and get everybody 10 ping, it takes time. The main server will be moved to a more central location, but they're also working on the peering agreements and stuff to ensure that traffic is more efficiently routed. I also heard rumors that Riot may be working on getting a cross-country fiber laid down, but I dunno about that one, and I have no idea when or where I heard it.

Until any of this stuff happens, 70 ping is perfectly fine. Great, in fact.

the fact that you said 70 ping is fine shows you know nothing. Did you know the best player in the world apdo changed his name and trolled when he got 70 ping? his name was 70PINGTHANKYOUGG . above 40 ping you cannot do things on skilled champions, (pressing zeds w fast enough literally impossible) being able to play lee sin or jayce properly. 70 is a huge problem in such a big game. "wait 3 months and check again" yeah they told me to do that 3 years ago m8 im still checking.

This post may have got out of hand a bit, so I apologize if it doesn't flow very well.

Extremely low ping is necessary for pro players. Neither of us is near that, so 70 is easily good enough.

Is it not enough to know that Riot is actually working on things, no matter how slowly it appears to be going? They've done things in 3 years. Most of it has not been directed toward ping optimization, but instead toward the more problematic things like packet loss. If you disagree on the importance of that, okay, but the point is ping is a lower priority for Riot than having an actual functioning game.

Ping is not a large issue when it is reasonably low (anywhere under 150 is fairly playable, particularly at lower skill levels such as ours) and, more importantly, stable. You (and me) do not have room to complain when you have ping that is less than half that of approximately half the NA playerbase. If anything you have an advantage over many players in your games simply because they receive information more than a tenth of a second slower than you do.

With your 70 ping, I'm guessing you live somewhere in the Midwest, about the same as me? If that's the case, the eventual server move should greatly benefit us in particular. But more importantly, it will lower the average ping of the entire NA server, especially when combined with the increased efficiency from the other parts of the NA Server Roadmap project.

Korea has low ping largely because the distances involved are tiny compared to ours. They are always going to have faster communication with servers simply due to geography; Comparing their server to anyone else's isn't very useful.

doesnt matter if you are a pro player or a noob player if you are trying to get better or play at max potential 70 ping is a problem. When i play against diamond players in solo que or ranked teams i can tell the difference of who has lower ping easily, cant play xerath vs them cant play anything or i have to guess 2 seconds ahead of time. You need to reread the mapping its so bad and will take forever, phase 3 is to finally move the shit location of the server. Yes korea has a small radius BUt they dont put there server closes to north korea they put it in the middle so they all have equal advantages understando? its completely useful, go ask a child where would you put a server that everyone uses on a continent like na? why the fuck would you put it on a COAST? 70ms, 150ms... if you're not an outlier, it's not going to make that huge a difference. The majority of people have reaction times above 200ms.

You also realize that having the servers in the middle is like having the servers in the middle of north/south carolina? The area you are talking about is so small compared the US alone (not even including all of NA) that is much easier to have the servers and have everyone connected at an equal level.

I'm with GaleWinUnleashed here in that Riot has worked on more important things in the last years that actually affect gameplay. As the OP said Packet Loss being the first and OMG IS THAT WORSE THAN LAG. Its on Riots radar, but I mean seriously its not that bad. I play with ~80 and I'm fine. If you've ever heard of the streamer Nightblu3 you know that he has played on 70+ ping in challenger. Clearly its not the ping thats causing the problems.

btw all thats doing is trying to route the connection different and use little base server= to 10% at best like they say. They are literally wasting time and making the process 30x longer than it needs to be. my guess is in the next 5 years you will still have to either move to california or deal with above 50-60 ping from the midwest and 70-120 east coast id actually be willing to bet money on it

i guess koreans are just magical then right?, they just magically make their internet connection extremely good and we just cant make a server in the middle instead because that would require too much money and effort... oh wait billion dollar company... 1 server in 5 years. korea as country tho is also extremely small compared to the us so there is less area for the internet to cover to get to people

Errr... Seoul is in northern South Korea. It's closer to North Korea than central South Korea.

Yeah, it takes awhile. You try and organize all the stuff they need to do in order to get the game to run faster, and then come back. Maybe, just MAYBE, you will have a leg to stand on then.
