apparently people are getting spammed by level 1 friend invites?

I've only ever gotten 2 friend invites by level 1 spam bots, and their usernames were really similar so they were obviously by the same person. My question is, why are some people getting, like, 10 friend invites by bots in a day?

Looking at the boards, it seems like bot-friending is an issue for some people. Maybe it only happens to people who have a low hidden mmr in normals? I don't know, I don't have this problem.
