Champion Icons

I know that this might have been proposed multiple times, but i would like to know if Riot has ever thought about champion icons.

Basically, taking the in game icon on the bottom left and using it as our summoner icon on the client. The only way to get the icon is to buy the champion and get the champion to level 5. It would be pointless to buy the icon of a champ you either have never played or barely play and equip it. the metal we get at lv 5 on champion points is how we feel special in game, but why let us show off our champion icon we've earned for being awesome at the champ?
