In the same way that Sion is obviously stealing from the Scion of the Ur Dragon from Magic: The Gathering or Lux is a name stolen from a series of turn-based strategy computer games made in the early 21st century, or how Katarina sounds oddly similar to the Ekaterina branch of the 39 Clues, or even how brand is also the name of a mechanic in Shadow of Mordor, or (my personal favorite) how they use the name Jinx which is obviously the name of a character from Teen Titans. You know what all of these have in common? Coincidence. Nothing about Riot's champs breaks copyright because any connections are purely coincidence.

They probably ripped the lore off some other game company too.

Good luck creating anything that is truly original.

Cho'Gath, based off of a Shoggoth from H.P. Lovecraft. People and companies make references and easter eggs all the time for games.
