new to poppy (ult questions)

So I played Poppy for the first time on an ARAM game and got an S- so I thought I would research into her a bit and see if she was worth putting in the time to practice and get better with. I did however notice some odd things with her ULT and need some clarification because I can't seem to find any help in the forums. I charged my ULT and walked to the side of a garen thinking it would slam him into the wall or at least the direction of my turret but instead he flew the other direction. So I watched some professionals play Poppy vids and saw that they can manipulate the champions hit flight path any direction they please despite the direction the ult is facing?

so my overall questions is

  1. Is there a trick to manipulating the flight path? or is this some kind of bug? cause the players in the vids would face direction 1 and knock a player direction 2 where a teammate was waiting in the bushes with perfect accuracy.
  2. What is the best way to use this ult?

thanks for your time.

Keeper's Verdict always knocks enemy champions directly towards their fountain, no matter from what direction Poppy hits it. Only thing she can affect is range of the knockup, by channeling it longer or shorter.

The ultimate will always hit the enemy towards their spawn. The only exception is if you don't charge the ultimate, which knocks them straight upwards instead.

The best uses of the ultimate are to land your combo (in 1v1 fights), disengage fights (when getting ganked or caught out) or knock away the enemy frontline or fed champions (teamfights).

I generally quickcat the ulti to get the enemy squishies or cast it after chargeup to remove their front line/tanks/vayne.

When ganking an enemy or going for a pick you always want to immediately double cast ult so that you don't knock them towards safety. In teamights or when you are trying to disenage you want to knock one or more enemies away with a fully channeled ult so that your team has a temporary numbers advantage in the fight.

The videos of people knocking enemies towards their allies with a charged ult are just stunts that are impractical to pull off in a real game. That's why they're worth recording: because it's so hard to do.

Poppy's ult sends enemies towards their spawn zone, regardless of your or their positioning. No matter where you stand and what direction you try, they will always move in a straight line towards their spawn zone.

I would prefer we could aim where they went, but Riot didn't want people getting nocked straight from the jungler into poppy's fountain laser and dying without being able to do anything. So they made it so her ult sends them to their spawn zone instead.
