Thank you Riot Support
This board is generally full of negative stories and general negativity so I felt Riot might appreciate something more positive. For those who read nothing but "Riot doesn't care about us", this is for you.
Early this weekend I just hit level 20 and went out to purchase runes from the store with my 7000+ saved IP for just this purpose.
Through my newness to the game, some poor comprehension of what I was doing and bad reading skills on my part (as well as a semi-screwed up search algorithm in their store, but had I really been paying attention that shouldn't have been a problem), I managed to spend almost 6K of the 7K+ IP on runes I considered useless.
I'm an adult professional: spending money is not really a problem for me, spending time absolutely is...and 6000 IP is a LOT of wasted time that I can't get back.
Not knowing where else to turn, I loaded up Riot's support pages and put a ticket in.
The first response I got back was friendly and understanding, but not exactly what I was looking for given what I considered the severity of my mistake. Through further communication, support and I came to an agreement that worked as well as I could have hoped for. No, they weren't offering me refunds for free (and for good reason too...that would be way too abuseable) or anything like that, but the final offered solution was more than fair given the fact that the mistake was mostly mine.
All of the support representatives I worked with (shout out to Vapplish, Strelok, and Spine Splitter) were courteous, understanding, and obviously willing to listen to/understand my situation.
Overall, this was as excellent a customer service experience as I've had with any gaming companies I've worked with in the past and much better than some.
So, for those of you reading the forums who may be worried Riot is as bad a company as many say they are, my experience says they're not.
