Surely I'm not the only one that feels Act 3 is really grindy

idk I just haven't really liked how Riot handled the event rewards this time around compared to the usual stuff. I was looking forward to Black Market Brawlers, but now that I'm seeing the icon reward criteria....I'm suddenly feeling less motivated to try to get the third thing.

I know there's going to be some kid on here that thinks "Oh god forbid they make you play a fun game mode more" but there's thing called getting burnt out from too much of it, and with stuff like 750 krakens and 15 Tier 3 upgrades.....that's kinda pushing it (especially when they won't even count until you get 2 wins or some stupid thing like that).

Note that I'm not hating on the new mode (which isn't half bad) but rather the way they promoted it. Before the top tier event rewards would be coming from more reasonable things like "Tag an enemy 150 times" (there's a difference between tagging an enemy with a snowball in ARAM and farming and spending 150 krakens...one of these things is more likely to be easy accomplishable within a few games. Guess which) or "Win a game of Ascension without the enemies getting ascended" which involved teamwork to reach the goal, and could have been done within a premade if it proved challenging.

Now here, I'm seeing "Spend 750 Krakens." That sure is a lot of Krakens to get in the first place before even spending...Worth keeping in mind that unlike game modes like Ascension and Poro King, which are fun and quick, Black Market Brawlers tends to play out like a regular SR game in terms of game length (at least, from what I've seen so far), and shockingly the amount of progress towards the rewards feels a lot less than it did with the earlier game modes (meaning more games necessary to be able to reach the rewards), thus making it feel like a huge grind to get there.

Surely I'm not the only one feeling a bit critical of the design with the event rewards?

I picked the GP icon.....Saw the requirements, lol Riot can keep their fucking icon. Usually I wouldn't mind but the game mode is really unenjoyable.

Yea, well, the folk that put in the effort will have something rare.

I think that's a good thing.

Everyone doesn't get to be winners....Especially the quitters.

In before down-votes...(Feel free, quitters)

I agree with you op.

I don't play any of those champs so I'm probably not gonna get it.

The Cracken requirement ain't no biggie, the problem is the Lvl 3 bonuses. Chances are, unless you're doing REALLY well, you'll only be able to afford one per game. And most times, you won't even get to do that, since games get to a decisive point much easier due to more lax matchmaking and snowbally minions causing uneven fights.

Doesn't help that the key feature of Black Market Brawlers kinda sucks, only redeemed by the extremely fun Black Market items.

I had fun with this game mode. I really did. However there are so many problems with the icon achievements as it's causing negative play patterns and very toxic attitudes. My screenshot by the way is not photoshopped, I'm wondering if it locks you out of getting all the Krakens until you got all the Level 15 upgrades since it is impossible to ever have a number that isn't a divisible of 5 when it comes to spending Krakens.

I played most of my games in this mode as a Support. I had to promote bad play patterns in order to get at least 1 Full Upgrade a game (I managed to get 2 in 2 games.) I had to B and spend at the worst possible times so that if we were stomping, I'd still get my Kraken rewards for the GP icon instead of the enemy surrendering.

It happened the opposite way around as well. In order to make sure I had the reward for one game, I refused every surrender vote with my Duo Friend to make sure we got the upgrade. In one game which we could have won actually, our MF who bragged of being Platinum and Diamond decided that the game wasn't worth playing anymore, flamed the two of us (she was in a trio queue, her team mates always being the ones to be caught of cause) and then just kept AFKing in base and firing Ults at random directions. I guess it's our fault for extending the game, but I didn't want to leave the game empty handed.

Games are being artificially far longer due to this icon. Games are being spite surrendered due to the icon as well. I've seen people who want to surrender just because it would not give them the icon (this happened for the Act II Tower Destruction). Hell, the first Act I ended up with a Challenger Karma in ARAM who just helped us farm the assists up for Act I, making sure the game wasn't ended until myself and two other people got what we wanted.

Hell when I had to do the 500 Minions, I decided to do it in CO-OP V AI since it counted. Want to know what that resulted me? Someone who decided to take Smite, Ranger's Trailblazer and flaming the hell out of me because they wanted to get the 500 minions also and every time I took one CS, they would flame the hell out of me. (I was pretty amused by this honestly.)

Next CO-OP V AI game I had a Kalista actually ult me away with a Tahm Kench eating me away from minions just so she could have them. She didn't link up with me until 25 minutes into the game and then proceeded to make it impossible for me to last hit minions without it counting to me. Yes, it didn't count them for me for that achievement. I want to point out how hard it is to actually CS minions when Kalista decides to pop in, auto attack a couple of minions for her passive, then as an AD myself the CS goes to HER and it doesn't count to the bonuses to my icon. Because of that, I was short 4 CS for the icon.

However Kalista problems are another thing entirely admittingly, but it's showing how far people are willing to go to make sure they get what they want from sabotaging games and game modes which are meant to be for fun to just downright flaming behaviour in general.

The GP icon was almost a final straw for me. It took way too long and there were at least 4 games where I didn't get any Level 3 Upgrades because I was mostly always playing a support and we stomped extremely hard. Oh and as a support or a tank Jungler (my other main role by the way), I was ENCOURAGED to steal kills for the sole purpose of getting 2 Krakens. The great advantage was so many people attempted to counter jungle unsuccessfully and that did lead to a lot more Krakens also.

Don't play. I don't disagree, but metrics (such as games played) are a better way to voice your displeasure.

Like I said a long time ago on the WoW forums, words won't change the game. Subscription $$ speak far louder than forum comments. Don't like something, don't play. Generally, living games are never going to cater to your personal demands.

Averaging about 40 krakens a game so that's about 19 games and if each is normally 40 mins then that's 760 mins turned to 12 hours and 40 mins worth of league. So yeah, you should get the icon easily within 5 days.

I have very little motivation to play BMB now that i have the icon. The TF/Graves icon rewards you for winning games quickly. The Gangplank icon rewards you for doing well in long games. This is part of the problem. People going for one icon want to surrender and move on to a game they can win if they think it's already over. People going for the other want to drag out games as long as possible and get screwed over when the enemy team surrenders if they were doing well or 1 Kraken short of a tier 3 upgrade.

You call that grindy? You have no idea.

Zirzon8/2/2015, 6:46:23 PM1 votes

My only issue with it is that the requirements for the GP icon look to be considerably more difficult than the TF/Graves one of the same tier. Overall though, I kinda like that they made the third icon tier harder to get, because it adds rarity to the icon. If they put some really crazy requirements to earn something, it can feel more rewarding to use.

TurquoiseYoshi8/2/2015, 6:50:51 PM1 votes

I did the TF + Graves icon. You have to win 8 games total and use all 4 brawlers after winning the first 2. I'm probably not gonna play this mode alone now that I have gotten the icon (my friends still haven't gotten it yet). This mode, in general, is just boring. It feels just like normal SR most of the time. Compare it to One for All, URF, Ascension, or Hexakill. All of those modes dramatically changed how you played the game. URF makes different champs viable (For example, Kat is less useful, Hec is more useful, etc.), One for All makes everyone play as the same champ (Imagine Bard or Veigar), Ascension has a new map and new rules, and Hexakill puts 6 people on the map (Extending strategy to 6 people). Black Market Brawlers has new lane minions and a few new items, making strategy now "Buy the new items, hire the new minions, play SR as normal." And that just isn't fun.

I really hoped it would be a Miss Fortune and Gangplank icon, not Twisted Fate/Graves and Gangplank, or another Bilgewater character.

But even then the requirements are absolutely ridiculous for a game mode that's so unfun. Try winning a game mode in this when minions snowball to the point most games end at 20 minutes.

Vistha Kai8/2/2015, 9:49:23 PM1 votes

GP icon. Took me 7 games to get the first fucking requirement. Now it's 20 more to get 750 Krakens.

How about go and rot in a hole?

ElJanitorFrank8/2/2015, 10:07:49 PM1 votes

It isn't that bad, you know. I played 1 game having unlocked the T2 reward requirements (750 Krakens, 15 T3 upgrades)

And I lost that game, with a pretty meh score. I got 70 Krakens and 1/15 T3 upgrades. So honestly, you can play only 10 games and probably meet the requriements. Just get as many Krakens as you can, and ONLY spend them on 1 upgrade path.

You do this and you'll only have to play about 10 games.

Gwellaouen8/2/2015, 4:06:05 PM1 votes

Lucky me even if I don't really think I am.

I don't have to spend some amount of krakens. I just need to win 2 games with a brawler item. I have done that.

Now, the problem is: I need to win 6 games and use all the minions things at least once. (There is 4 of them).

The problem is that, since the beginning of the new mode, I've got one troll/afk in praticaly each game. Give me courage please. XD

First impression of LoL "Oh... I have to grind to lvl 30" "Oh... I have to grind to get champions" "Oh... I have to grind to get runes" "Oh... I have to grind to rank up" "Oh... I have to grind in the new events" I feel like there is a pattern here.
