Hey Everyone,

Through past seasons we have been dedicated to the detection and punishment of players who have been involved in MMR Boosting in one way or another. Over the past seven months the Player Support Player Behavior team and Risk team have been working together on vast improvements to our detection methods to ensure even more of a strain is put on Boosters and those they are boosting.

Now after months of hard work and dedication we are able to aggressively go after players who have participated in MMR Boosting. Over the following weeks we will be rolling out MMR Boosting punishments to over 70,000 players who have had their accounts boosted in the 2015 season. These 70,000 are not the only ones who will receive MMR Boosting punishments this season; starting today we will be rolling out normal ban waves punishing anyone who has had their account boosted this season.

For those who are new to League of Legends and for anyone who needs a little refresher, a MMR Boosting punishment is not something to disregard. Anyone punished will face the following punishment :

  • A two week suspension
  • Removal of all previous Season Rewards (Victorious Skins, Borders, Icons, Ward Skins)
  • Ineligibility to receive the 2015 Season Rewards
  • A second offense will result in the permanent suspension of the account

If you have any questions or concerns regarding MMR Boosting or the punishments please share them in the comments, I and members of the Risk team will be here to answer them. Please remember the Boards rules on naming and shaming, if you feel a player is involved in MMR Boosting in any way please do not post your report here. You can send a report in through a support ticket and we will begin investigation.

Can we buy cans of carbonated boostee tears from you? Extra profit, think about it Rito.

You can call it Shrekt Cola, just make sure to add caramel colouring, HFCS, and other carcinogenic ingredients to match other colas. You're welcome.

I don't always drink cola, but when I do, I prefer it to be made from the tears of butthurt cheaters.

Stay thirsty my friends.

What is your definition of MMR boosting?

A player constantly playing with a duo who is several divisions above them to carry them out of their mmr is what I'm getting out of this.

I'm skeptical of how accurate a machine can detect someone else playing your account, but I'm glad they have been working on it.

Hi Riot,

While we appreciate more diligence being brought to light to punish MMR booster, what about leavers, ragequitters, and trolls? There has yet to be any measures taken against what many consider to be the most negative aspect of the game. Quite a lot of systems have been adopted by your competitors to varying degrees of success. Why are we still waiting for a bone after 5 years, when new titles like HOTS are already taking measures against the negative elements of their community? I'd much rather avoid losing ranking over a quitter, rather than punish someone who wishes to cheat their way to the top.

Will you reset their mmr ? I can see those people eloboosted still ruining the matchs of other people(by being not good enought for their mmr / trolling because they don't get rewards). They will also keep their MMR for the next season placement.

0-0) so you guys are gonna just guess who is doing this? Because your "detection" sounds like rubbish. If it is like anything else in the current state of riot, one of you are gonna select a region spin around 8 times and ban whoever your finger lands on first. Better Nerf Evelynn

How will this affect players who have used a vpn, travel a lot, or have been staying with friends more since it is summer?

What about competitive players? And yes, I'm referring to the HKesports and their ADC situation. Do pros who have elo boosted get banned from competitive play?

I don't know if this was asked. But how will these ban people know they got ban? this action will take into effect for ban hammer this week and following weeks to come? and will you get an email letting people know they was ban fr this? thanks!

Do this 70000 players include other regions or just NA only? This website(http://www.lolsummoners.com/stats/na) said there are 1,744,863 ranked players on NA. So 4% of the ranked players are elo-boosted?

How is it gonna work? i mean, if someone have a (ex.) 15 win streak, or something it could seem like boost, but maybe it isnt right?
