To start off I think I need to introduce myself, I'm a straight A student hoping to get strait A+ in my next semester and I have many fresh ideas in my mind for League of Legends. I am not a employee at Riot, by the way and I have only played League of Legends for 8 months. Throughout those 8 months I have seen what Riot does well in and what it doesn't, I have thought about all of Riots decisions and I have concluded what Riot needs to improve on and what only needs minor changes.
First of all the biggest problem with Riot is that they don't really explain thoroughly the reasons why they make decisions. Very long ago people were excited to see a inbuilt voice chat implemented into League of Legends, they heard no news of one coming but the thought that since league of legends is a team based game there would be some time of voice chat that you could turn on and off. Riot did start working on it very long ago but stopped and never went back to the idea, this is one of their first mistakes. Solo queue was brought to us as a great way to test how good you are and it was really what made this game so popular as a esport, People loved the thrill of playing 800 games of ranked and finally after a long game they see the screen dim and a diamond looking figure forge before their eyes. Very recently Riot has made the decision to temporarily take out solo queue. That was probably the worst mistake they have made so far, there is still ranked but you cannot have a fair fight since the enemy team may have a party of five and you may me solo. Solo queue should have been kept until Riot figured out how to make dynamic queue more digestible to the audiences. I feel like Riot has very viable reasons for not bringing back Solo Queue and not bring us a Voice Chat in game but they haven't had a live discussion about that recently and I think in the state of the game right now... they need it. Riot listens to their community better than any other game company I have ever seen.
The Boards idea was great and the support is a very efficient easy-to-use page, you can get assistance in less than 2 days. I love how Riot encourages us to play with friends and make friends along the way of our journey through the Summoner's Rift, I myself has had a great experience with the friending system and its the only reason why I still play league of legends. The problem is that Riot kind-of forced us to play with friends to win in the newest ranked system (dynamic queue). Riot should have more game modes that are always available, the rotating game mode queues are the most unique additions Riot has made to League of Legends but it would be more healthy to have at least one to stay with us through the weekdays too.
I think another problem riot made was the Tribunal System, many people probably don't even know what that is and to be honest I did not know what it was until a month ago. It was a old system were players could sign up to be on it and few would be chosen to be part of "The Tribunal" and they would go to a page and look at a Summoner who has been reported a sufficient amount of times for misbehaving in chat the person would look through the chat to see what the offender said and decide on that of weather to punish the offender or not. A few people would be in every case so it wouldn't just be one person's decision. Riot simply duct taped this mistake by saying the tribunal was under maintenance and they never actually said anything about if the tribunal would even come back, at this point we can all tell that it isn't coming back but Riot really did never explain why or if it would. that is a example of when they didn't explain why they made a decision like that.
Another problem is the replay system, the only use for it at the moment is just to see what abilities someone used on you to kill you and it wasn't really supposed to be just that, I don't know what it was supposed to be and there is another example of bad communication with Riot and the community. It can be made better to maybe even show a clip of you dying in slow motion or pauses.
I don't want to completely dis Riot, after all they are the best gaming company ever and they have more than double the amount of qualities than flaws. They just have a few big problems that have very hard fixes, I know Riot can get better and I think they just need more people with fresh Ideas in their minds to help guide them to a better future. I don't want to stand up on a soap box and say that I would be a great employee at Riot I'm just saying they need people with fresh ideas. Remember that Riot is being nice as to let you in on a lot of their ideas and giving you new sales every month, imagine if they didn't care about the community like a lot of other companies and just left us to wonder what is going on. Don't take Riot for granted because they are probably the nicest gaming company you will find.
