-Casual Gamer Here- What's TenCent?

Hey all. I've enjoyed playing League since the summer of 2011. I'm a working adult (28 at the time of this post) and I really only play this game to have fun after a long day. I only play normal games; ranked is too hard for me (although League put me in Bronze II or III the last few years). I don't really know whats going on in the League community half the time.

Can someone explain this TenCent thing? I've looked into it briefly; its my understanding TenCent is a company hired to help struggling games and apparently Riot is now owned by this company or something?

I HAVE noticed League getting kinda watered-down and somehow softer over the years.

Can anyone explain whats going on and what TenCent is doing?

Thanks all!

Tencent doesn't technically own Riot, but they have about 90% of the stocks on it, so they have a great influence on League, much to the dismay of League players.

Its my understanding Riot doesn't have any publicly traded stocks but I understand what you're saying. To me this kinda looks like the very beginning of the end of League.

Sorry, don't quite understand much about stocks. Just repeating what I've heard. Regardless, it may sadly be the beginning of the end.

Basically your "...but they have about 90% of the stocks on it" means that while Riot still makes the final decisions, they have to please Tencent (not the playerbase) because Tencent has spent more money than the playerbase. I would say a "stock" is "influence on..."; If I have more stocks than the CEO of Apple or Microsoft (by buying them), then Apple and Microsoft would have do everything in their power (like selling their products) to make ME happy (thereby increasing the value of the stocks I bought earlier at their original price) before anyone else because I invested more money in them.

Or to get REALLY nerdy, a stock is kinda like keeping your support fed so that they can better protect you against an enemy player / company and let you get the kill / buy-out.

I've outdone myself with the nerdiness this time LOL.

The value of the stock = Support's Gold Selling High = Kill-Stealing the Support about to kill an enemy on a kill streak and getting the bounty for yourself. Although while YOU get the bounty, the other team-mates also get a benefit from the fed Support.

I don't know how to explain stocks well LOL.
