@Riot/Tamat/Zileas/Baconhawk: Care to Comment on This?
You may or may not know me, but I'm an Adjudicator. I lurk and post in GD in the old forums quite a lot. I was quite surprised to find, after being away from internet for a week on vacation, to find this thread:
So we actually try to get together and make the forums better for everyone
Apparently, a huge thread talking about everything we GDers see wrong with GD, and how we might go about changing it. Then, somewhere around page 12, the thread gets deleted. Not closed. Deleted.
Let's be frank here. Everyone who as ever used GD can agree that it has become a den of trolls, shitposters, and fire-breathing-circle-jerkers. Moderation has been inconsistent at best, and devolved into blatant abuse of powers at worst. But then a thread genuinely interested in trying to turn things around, which obviously was receiving a lot of traffic and, reportedly, generating constructive, civil, and on-topic discussion -- something that >NEVER< happens now a days in GD -- gets randomly deleted?
Even you, Tamat, have to agree that this "invisible footprint" zero accountability moderation is not working. As I type this, on page 1 of GD there is:
- a thread about a cat pic
- Darth Krato making another attention whoring anti FEK thread
- a random AMA
- a thread asking for advice with an ex
- a "selfie" thread
- a thread asking what music would make you dance at a funeral
- a thread asking about My Little Pony, not in reference to Arcade Hecarim
- another Darth Krato anti FEK thread
- "should I get into MTG"
- "GD, I have an armpit fetish"
Granted, this is quite tame for late night GD. Normally there would be at least 1 thread with sexually suggestive imagery, that would quickly slip into sexually explicit imagery. Even the spam posters are taking it easy tonight. But that's 10 out of the 50 non-stickied threads on the page. 1 out of every 5 threads on a really slow night do not belong in GD.
Frankly, I could probably write a book on why GD is the way GD is. And most of the reasons keep coming back to you, Riot. For years, Rioters chose not to go into forums that were not GD. For years, forum moderation has been questionable, and completely invisible. And now, on several occasions, both here in the CB, and back on GD, Rioters have said or implied that they do not care about the old forums anymore.
Do you have anything to say about this? Anything at all?
[Edit 7/10/14 9:15 am] The original thread seems to have reappeared. It's not quite what I expected it to be, but it is still very worth reading. There is a lot of good discussion in there.
GD, we need a leader. A hero we do not deserve, but absolutely need.
While that's great and all.... This really needs to be addressed, Tamat. You have mods running around doing things nobody understands, then those actions get reversed later with, similarly, no apparent reasoning why. [/Edit]
[Edit 7/10/14 10:46 pm] Well, now the We need a leader thread has been moved to off-topic. [/Edit]
[Edit 7/11/14 10:57 am] Thank you Baconhawk for moving the thread back where it belongs. I hope the mod in question receives his proper boiling in bacon oil. [/Edit]
