Whats the point of the first 10 games of ranked?

It doesnt seem like it really determines where we get put in ranked. A friend of mine won 2/10 games and made silver, another won 1 and was put into bronze 1/10, and ive won 6/10 and got put into bronze 5*[zombie-brand-mindblown]* . I asked my friend and they said maybe its my mmr or something like that. Im wondering whats the point of those first 10 ranked games if it just based on our mmr. Kinda feel like ranked is broken*[zombie-brand-clap]* . Any thoughts on this?
