Auction House Idea (because it belongs in NO other board even though it's a legitimate idea)

(This is a post I made in the PBE forum, and have decided to move to the Official forum with hopes to receive more feedback on it. Even if it's total rejection. And apparently none of the subreddi--- I mean "BOARDS" fits with this type of post, so here I am, misc.)

This idea is beyond crazy. It's insane. That being said, I don't know if this idea or something like this has shown up before in the LoL community, so I'm sorry if I'm unknowingly re-posting something.

I will get the base of the idea out first, then I will touch on it in more detail right after, and finally give a brief example on how it would work. So just bare with me.

My idea is this :

  • Champion Auction house. Players can sell their own champions to other players.

  • The price that these players can sell the champions at is 80%(~) of the original RP/IP cost. Yes, my idea proposes that you can sell champs for RP. Just hang in there.

  • When you sell that champion, you have to go through the trouble/work of earning enough to buy that same champion all over again, if you want to sell it once more.

  • Because these are 20%(~) cheaper RP/IP-wise than normal shop champions, it's incentive to buy from the auction instead.

  • Catch : Every transaction made with RP will be halved - so instead of making 80% of the original champion RP cost amount, you'll only make 40%(). The other 40%() will magically disappear, being "refunded" to Riot. (All listed percentages are completely up for speculation and change, because I really have no idea what the math behind it all is to make an educated guess on what the percents really should be.)

Now, before you call me stupid or insane, I'm going to touch on a few points that I believe are worth noting.

  1. The market will become more active, and auction will become the main way to obtain champions with RP/IP. Specifically, RP will most likely be the most used transaction type because of its cost effectiveness, and it gives a chance for those who can't buy RP to obtain it and use it to buy skins and so forth.

  2. Now, the reason I say that you would only be able to sell champs and so on for 80% isn't really anything at all. There's no reason. I wouldn't suggest allowing players to sell champions for lower than 70% though so that Riot gets a larger boost of money from the amount of RP being purchased. Of course, players should be able to vary their prices from 70% ~ 100% of the original price (or whatever the minimum is ~ 100%). The minimum is not something I am able to decide, because I don't know the math behind all of it. I can only guess.

  3. The reason behind the champion being removed from the sellers owned listing is so that they will actively have to use the REAL shop in order to re-obtain those champions and make a profit via RP or IP, whichever they choose to sell for. This will boost the amount of RP purchases, as well as IP purchases, and increase game activity over all. Honestly, I believe it will even increase players desires to do better & carry in games so that they can maximize their profits, in order to obtain more champions to sell (for the "Sell-for-RP" players.)

  4. Reason for the 40% (or half-minimum-%) refund to Riot is because it will reduce the amount of RP floating throughout the markets, forcing players to buy more RP more often. I hope this makes sense. Also, it doesn't have to be a 'half-refund' thing. It could be 20% of the minimum sell price refunded, or whatever fraction Riot would choose, should the idea actually become a thing.

  5. Because the auction house is cheaper than the shop, players will more likely buy from the Auction house instead, be it with RP or IP. Also, the cheapness of it in comparison will likely increase purchases in general. At least I hope it would.

  6. Players will be able to sell all the champions they buy and end up never playing, or not wanting because they simply do not like that champion. For instance, I do not/can not play Urgot or Blitzcrank. I would rather get rid of them and buy other champions instead.

Example :

  • You want to buy Braum.
  • Braum costs 975 RP, or 6300 IP.
  • In the auction house, Braum is for sale for 80% of his RP cost. 780 RP.
  • You just happen to have 780 RP, exactly.
  • You buy Braum from the user selling him in the auction house.
  • Your 780 RP is cut in half through the transaction, and 390 of it is deleted from existance.
  • The other 390 goes to the user you bought Braum from.
  • Seller makes 390 RP, which he can use to purchase skins or something.

--- additional possibility ---

  • You are out of RP after buying Braum.
  • You want Yasuo really badly.
  • You see a Yasuo on sale in the auction house for 780 RP, just like Braum.
  • Brain : "Cheaper than normal shop Yasuo. Auction, you tease."
  • You want to buy RP so you can buy Yasuo from Auction house.
  • ????
  • Profit.

--- additional possibility ---

  • You are out of RP after buying Braum.
  • You want Yasuo really badly.
  • You see a Yasuo on sale in the auction house for 780 RP, just like Braum.
  • You decide to sell some champions you never play/do not want for RP, and rack up enough to buy the Yasuo.
  • You buy Yasuo from the user selling him in the auction house.
  • Your 780 RP used is cut in half through the transaction, and 390 of it is deleted from existance.
  • The other 390 goes to the user you bought Yasuo from.
  • Seller makes 390 RP, which he can use to purchase skins or something.
  • ????
  • Profit.

I wanted to remove IP auctions entirely... because every time I look through this idea and read up on it, the IP section of the Auction seems like a very troublesome and odd thing. Every time I wanted to elaborate on IP, or change it a little to make it more 'possible', I couldn't. I couldn't touch it without ruining it. That either means it's perfect as is - or the more likely reason - that it's really, really messy and should not be touched at all. (but I touched it anyways, keep reading =] )

A thought my friend helped me with, regarding the IP portion of the auction house... The IP part of this idea is broken. So what he suggested was that when you sell champions for IP, the amount of IP you get back is even less than the portion you get back from RP, percentage wise. For instance, my suggestion was you sell via RP for 80%, and earn only 40%. Right? My friends thought for IP was sell it for 80% (or whatever), and only earn 10~20%, if not less! This reduces the chances of somebody (rich buggers) abusing the IP gains without huge expenditures. YAY! IP ISNT BROKEN ANYMORE!!

It would increase the amount of RP purchases for players who are lazy (work too much and don't have time) and don't want to play a million games to get enough IP for runes. They can buy RP, buy champs, then sell those champs in the Auction House for IP. It's not extremely profitable, but for some people it's quicker than playing games, especially if they have little time to do so.

In order to keep up the activity of players should the auction house be implemented - I think players should be required to have played at LEAST 500 games (digit up for debate, wins and losses combined)in order to gain access to the auction house. This will make it to where players still experience the Normal shop and Normal gameplay long enough for it to not be unfair in a sense. A level 20 with all runes vs level 20's with none or very few would hardly be fair.

This idea CAN be extended to champion skins, but I really think that this should not happen at all. Ever. Skins would be one of the main things players spend their RP on once they sell champions for said RP. This would keep them actively selling champions for RP, for more skins. It's like Hats in TF2. You always want them, even though they serve no purpose other than to make you sexy as hell. The harder they are to obtain, the more people will pay for them. Keep them Normal Shop only, and people will consistently pay the high prices for them.

Additional thought(s) :

-Maybe make it to where RP sales can be for 80%() and IP sales can only be for 90%()(any percent higher than RP sales' percent), to increase the chances that RP would be used for trade, over IP. ?? Maybe. Thoughts?

-Make it to where RP sales have higher percentages refunded to keep transactions active? For instance, refund 80% of the transaction amount instead of 50 or lower? I think that'd increase the amount people try to sell champions so they can afford skins, rune pages, name changes, and so on. ?? Maybe. Thoughts?

Another thought my friend helped me with, regarding the IP portion of the auction house... I don't really know what else to type, I'm pretty tired. So ima just post this and check it every now and again tomorrow, see what people think. Please, everyone, leave your thoughts and so on in a comment. If you have any changes you think should be put into the idea, please say so. I could really use help on refining this idea.

UPDATE-IDEA-THAT-ISNT-VERY-GOOD:

Perhaps make it to where you can only trade champions with people in a certain 'league' that you are in. For instance, the literal league that you are in (bronze 1, silver 3, whatever)... or people who are in the same league on a win/loss ratio, or total games played. (You have 1400 games... wins + losses ... and can only trade with people who have 1350 ~ 1450 games, or whatever variation of such numbers.) This update idea is NOT very good, but it is an idea nonetheless, and may spark variations in any readers minds that may improve it to a viable status.

Thanks for reading, everyone. =)

PS: This idea is really just to increase the amount of shopping players do in league of legends, and HOPEFULLY increase Riots income so they can grow more, faster :3 It's also got a nice benefit for those who can't afford RP! :D

Vote just for the lols at the end of this post.

TL;DR --- Auction house that lets players trade champions with other players for various prices in hopes of increasing competitive marketing and a more active "economy".

this kind of idea only works with real money transactions in my opinion, such as the steam market, and Riot wouldn't use it because it won't boost their profits significantly enough. Sorry.
