That's not an alt account of mine oranything. I found the question interesting, bummed no one replied, and I'm "bumping" it, per sé.
As far as I can see, the purple card (at least on Classic TF) appears only on the back of the blue card (the hoop of cards around him has two kinds of cards in it; red/yellow ones and blue/purple ones). I would imagine that the card model was left over from an older version of TF which had some sort of purple card, either as a fourth card to be picked or as another ability. Finally, it's also possible that it represents the 'back' of the cards; in his old icons, the blank card (before you started picking) was purple. https://i.imgur.com/hypZj24.png
