To be fair, there is many other titles, especially online games that adopted the two legged bird mount schmick. So you can't exactly say they pulled the reference from Final Fantasy in general. Though its easy to assume its based off of a Chocobo considering that the yellow bird ride is one of the most dominant representations of avian mounts, Since i don't ever recall any game having a 'two legged bird mount' or 'bird horse' in their own games before Final Fantasy ever conceived them.
