Why does Lyte get paid? [Discussion]

Here's my question - why does Lyte still get paid? Let's run through some personal experiences.

  1. Player behavior on League of Legends is worse than it's ever been. The current culture of overentitled children is being reinforced - if you do poorly, Lyte still hands you a participation trophy! "Don't worry, you don't need to excel at anything, we'll just mute all those bad people on the Internets who criticize".
  2. You run into an AFK or deliberate feeder once every three games, and Lyte does nothing about it. I mean, maybe he does, but I still see an AFK every three games, so regardless of action, it's the same outcome.
  3. Psychological studies indicate that muting negative players, or a "prisoner's island", is actually very toxic to the game environment, rather than helping them reform.

...so why is Lyte still employed, rather than on a blacklist somewhere for total incompetency?

  1. Worse? In what ways is it worse? As for the participation vs excelling "trophy", last I checked the Victorious Skins weren't available to Bronze or Silver players, implying the system you love is very much intact. What's been added is a "trophy" for those who are able to not get restrictions for their behavior.
  2. It's been ages since I've run into a deliberate feeder, and I think the AFK stat is probably closer to 1/10 games rather than 1/3. The goal of the Leaver Buster isn't to get to 0% AFK, but to discourage rage quitting. People leaving because of technical issues or real life obligations that come up mid-game is a reality that won't change no matter what Riot does.
  3. Muting (or chat restricting) is not a Prisoner's Island. A Prisoner's Island is when you put all the offenders in the same place (in this case, a special queue).

I can't see any reason why Lyte would be fired based on the points you brought up.

Here's my question - why does Lyte still get paid? Let's run through some personal experiences.

Because personal experiences are always unbiased and fully representative of the whole, right?

  • Player behavior on League of Legends is worse than it's ever been. The current culture of overentitled children is being reinforced - if you do poorly, Lyte still hands you a participation trophy! "Don't worry, you don't need to excel at anything, we'll just mute all those bad people on the Internets who criticize".

What participation trophy would that be?

And why do you seem to believe that criticism is - inherently - considered punishable? Because I'm pretty sure it's not - I mean, I offer criticism all the time, but I've never seen a sanction at all.

  • You run into an AFK or deliberate feeder once every three games, and Lyte does nothing about it. I mean, maybe he does, but I still see an AFK every three games, so regardless of action, it's the same outcome.

So ~7% of the community afks or feeds? That seems pretty damn good to me.

  • Psychological studies indicate that muting negative players, or a "prisoner's island", is actually very toxic to the game environment, rather than helping them reform.

That is not what a Prisoner's Island is. But I'd be glad to see these studies indicating that limiting communication (and thereby enforcing decision-making on what to communicate) encourages more negative communication. Would you care to offer a citation?

Gotta love when people just pull statistic out of nowhere! To answer your question Lyte gets paid because (gasp) he is doing his job. Why people think they can get of every single toxic person, or AFK/DC is just mind blowing. its not going to go away, but they can at least try and keep it to a minimal! Ill admit it could be improve, but again it takes time for things like this to actually get up and running! You make it seem like they can just drop everything and only work on fixing this.
