Trying to Design My Own Champion ( Need Help! )

At school, my shop class, which be with me for 3 more years, is Digital Media Arts. I really want to create some Art for league of legends, but i need some help with getting started. If anyone is willing to give me some tips or tricks for, "Adobe Illustrator", that will be great. thanks :)
