Why is my friend able to still use the old HUD?

As of this moment, as I am writing this discussion thread, he is literally sitting right next to me, with the old HUD.

He has no idea why he is still using the old one, even with updates today. I am incredibly jealous of him because the new one sucks. Does anyone know how this happened?

I looked for all different kinds of settings and cannot change it back, but he's playing it like nothing updated at all! SO JEALOUS?? PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE KNOWS WHY THIS HAPPENED.
