Can Every Stop Saying Autism?

So when did Autism all the sudden become an insult for bad play. What the fuck people? Excuse my language but this is idiotic how you're using a disability to describe someone in a game. Just stop. I grew up with a slight form of Autism and it isn't funny to hear people call each other Autistic and the game Autistic. You are all insulting people who have social disability and turning into your little game fetish insult. I feel like this should be more bannable than just cussing because this is just unacceptable. This not only bugs me but it makes me want to show all of the idiots who are using "Autism" as a bad gameplay and idiotic term to shut up. JUST STOP.

Look guys, this post isn't a place for hate and rudeness, so please stop.

As someone with Autism, I don't care. This is just people looking for something to be mad about. Also, calling it a learning "disability" is more insulting that seeing people call others Autistic. It has done nothing but help me in life.

However, I see how some people could get upset, and theres really no reason to say it in a game.

Some of my students have autism, as does my brother and I hate that it's become an insult not only in league but also the internet. It sucks and is incredibly infuriating but unfortunately we cant do anything about it. I bet half the people that use the word don't even know what it means.

Meh, people are always going to find some phrase to insult each other with and more than likely it is going to offend some people where it might hit to close to home. Lame, dumb, retarded, and apparently now 'autistic' the list goes ever on.

I can't help but notice you use the phrase 'idiotic' and call people 'idiots', which for a decent period of relatively recent history was the real term to define people who scored extremely low on tests of intelligence. And yet this terminology seems to be ok with you despite the fact that there are certainly people who fall under this classification.

These are just random insults, and while I certainly do not condone vulgarity under most any circumstance it is something that is going to come up quite often if you want to associate with people online. Remember, they aren't commenting in anyway on the realities of autism (of which they almost certainly know nothing about), just take a deep breath and let it go.

I haven't seen anybody talk about autism like that before, but whoever thinks it's a viable insult is a freaking idiot. Seriously, that's like if I say "This guy is a freaking paraplegic lelelelel."

It's nonsensical, it makes you look like a complete and insufferable imbecile, and nobody cares what you say following a comment like that. People need to find other ways to vent their frustrations than insulting people who deal with issues that they have never had to experience. In my experience, many people who are autistic are some of the most well-meaning, kind, and friendly people I've ever met. I have several friends with minor autism and we became good friends because their character was something that more than made up for their minor faults.

Next time you see somebody insult another by calling them autistic, then just make it clear that autistic people have a much better character and personality than them, because emphasizing on a person's faults which they were born with is perhaps the most cruel thing you can possibly do. I mean, for pete's sake, when's the last time you saw a mature human being point and laugh at somebody in a wheelchair?

I know it may just be me, but I think people like that need to rethink their life choices and if not, need to go through proper societal development before they come to an online community.

Personally, I'd like to blame some of the Autism Awareness campaigns that have been going around the past couple years. Autism Spectrum Disorder is classified as a chronic mental illness in medical terms and a mental/learning disorder in psychlogical terms; this of course must automatically make anyone who has it intellectually inferior, right?

...Yeah, no, it's just yet another buzzword people throw around when they feel someone else is doing something "objectively" wrong. While there are definitely autistics out there who will indeed do stupid stuff and not realize that they're doing so (that's a lot of what autism entails, really), the extent that it happens tends to be relegated to less online things. And while it does happen in-game, a friendly reminder of what they're doing wrong (and NOT toxicity) is typically enough to prompt them to fix up their gameplay.

Problem is, though, autism is being thrown around as an insult, and it hurts no matter who it's said at--kinda like calling someone gay or retarded for the same mistakes. Those without autism take offense at the false accusation, and those with it are hurt that it's being used as a derogatory term.

You're expecting league of legends players to have humanity.

That was your first mistake. Autistic or not, you should know better by now. lol

Some people honestly just do not care. Just wait until you meet one of these people in reality and get insulted over something equally as trivial as a video game.

Oh look someone telling others what they can and cannot say because it upsets them.

Let me know how that works out.

Sorry you had to go through that.

Adalore10/18/2015, 1:29:05 AM2 votes

Right there with you on the "Really?" wagon for people using it.

Along with people using "That's so gay" I do attempt to call them out on it. Typically it's people who are so lazy they cannot come up with an original insult so you can peg them on that. Every time I run into it in game I do make a point of reporting it.

As someone with autism, it honestly doesn't surprise me that people would use words they don't understand to convey meaningless insults. It still offends me, though.

You know it's a circle jerk thread when you see something like, "this should be more bannable than just cussing". Obviously it already is. Stop asking for upvotes, it makes you sound like a 15 year old girl in instagram.

Welcome to the internet, political correctness or morality does not exist, and will not exist here, if it offends you, there is a mute button. You will never truly prevail over the anonymity of dickheads on the internet, my own personal feelings on the matter are irrelevant, because I, and most people have accepted the truth of the internet, you cannot tame this vile creature.
