This guy's right, actually. There isn't a meaningful replay system in League--in fact, I remember when Riot changed their game so that it would crash if you were running the then-popular third-party app LOL Replay. People have found workarounds by streaming their games and just fishing out the VODs, but even that's a band-aid solution at best, and one that's not accessible to a lot of people with lower-end computers that can't stream.
As for higher latency in non-west coast regions, I haven't seen it firsthand so I can't say if it's true or not. However, he's definitely right in saying that skillshots are significantly more difficult with higher latency. Actually, EVERYTHING is more difficult with higher latency. Maybe if someone has to play with 150 ping every single game, they might get used to it and be able to adapt. But if you're not playing with a constant ping (maybe because you're on the move a lot and different regions get different ping), then it's pretty much impossible to judge how much lag for which you have to compensate.
He's also right about Riot have plenty of cash to go around. Riot Games has only been growing in the past few years. The evolution of the League esports scene is a direct testament to Riot's growth and metamorphosis. Unfortunately, they seem to be more concerned with money grabbing at this point than actually, meaningfully improving their game. Don't get me wrong, they love their game and it's still a very high priority to them--it's just that I feel the game is slowly being forced into playing second fiddle to the profits. Glaring bugs like the Sivir spellshield invulnerability go unfixed; Riot instead opts to disable the champion for competitive play while they continue to churn out skins and other superficial content like the talk show /ALL Chat. Various other champion bugs as of late have been treated similarly, taking unacceptably long to be addressed. I think Viktor and Caitlyn are still bugged right now, as they have been for at least a month.
I'd really like to see Riot return to its humble, relatively small roots wherein the company and the game were in service to the players, not the other way around. It honestly feels like the players are Riot's cash cows today, and that Riot is only interested in balancing around the competitive scene. League has ceased to be a game. It's a sport. And sports don't accommodate their amateurs. I want League to be a game again, a game in which everyone could have fun at every level free from an oppressive, imbalanced metagame. And while I understand that League needs to push its freemium model to bring home the bacon, I'd really appreciate it if they didn't take every possible opportunity to shove RP-only purchases in our faces. If they're going to roll in this much of our dough, at least do something meaningful for the game with it. Make a replay system to help players learn by watching themselves. Get better servers or service, whichever is the problem at the moment. And for the love of all things good, update the damn client so that it isn't a souped-up Internet Explorer (that's literally what the League client is, a heavily modded Internet Explorer).
I'm not here to knock on Riot Games or their hard work. I'm just here to say that while I understand that they've put a lot of labour and love into the game, they're putting labour and love into a lot of the wrong places.
