Suggestions to fix the new champ select
@Lyte, @Riot Tuxedo, @Riot NaKyle, @Scarizard you have commented on the new champ select, so this is for you.
If you read the boards, you will see a lot of threads that complain about supports and the new champ select. Things like fill == Support, if your secondary is Support you never get your primary, etc. It is obvious that at certain MMRs (I know in Bronze this is the case) Support is the role with the fewest players. I queue as Jungle primary / Support Secondary and have gotten support every single time I queued as a solo player. Look at my history... In the past you have tried to work on items (thank you for Sightstone) and trinkets, but whenever an item is really good for supports others pick it up and abuse it (Heart of Gold I'm looking at you).
Rather than try to work on items for supports, how about you try a different tack and look at rewarding people for playing undesired role(s)?
One of the thoughts I had was to alter the IP rewarded based on the demand for a role. You know how much each role is selected when folks join the queue, which I call demand for the role. Each role should have a 40% demand (100% ÷ 5 players per team = 20% x 2 picks per player = 40%). However, certain roles are in higher demand and few want support. If the demand for Mid is 60% the IP reward would be (IP x 40% / 60%) = .67IP. Likewise, if demand for support is a pitiful 10% the IP reward would be (IP x 40% / 10%) = 4IP. This way it would encourage some people that place a value on earning IP to pick the role fewer people desire. Also, by tying it to how many folks are in queue for each role it would be self-regulating.
Another option would be to reward a few RP (1 - 5) for those roles that are not desired. This may expand the pool of people that would like these less desired roles, as some people have more IP than they know what to do with.
I don't know what Hextech Crafting will bring, but another option would be to tweak those rewards to make it more likely to get a reward if you play one of the less desired roles.
Please do something. I don't want to have to try to manipulate the new champ select by picking Top or Mid as my secondary, just to get a fair shot at getting my primary.
