Why does my MMR take such a huge hit after a 3 game losing streak?

I have been trying really hard to push myself into diamond. I finally got out of plat 5 by hard carrying with lee/kha/jax (basically I've just picked ignite and went ham). I met my duo partner in one of my plat 5 games and I've played with him a few times while climbing, I normally have really great scores. I got into plat 2 and I lost a game, won my next, lost 3 in a row and got demoted.

Now I'm struggling to climb in plat 3. I had TWO games with 4v5's (one was actually a 3v5) and I lost 20 points each for those. I had to dodge twice resulting in a loss of 13 L. But if I win a game? I get about 15 points. Why? I lost THREE games in a row, that's it. Now I have to have a 66% win to climb effectively? Why?

The point of a ranking system is to rank each player according to how good they are compared to everyone else.

If you start creating a pattern that you aren't where you're supposed to be, the system is going to try pushing you out of that particular bracket faster.
