Luck Based Games
First of all, I'm not really talking about LoL in this post (I hope that it's okay to post this in Misc)
LoL has some degree of luck (who your team is, and who you are against) can strongly affect your win/losses and even performance, but I'm talking about games that are almost purely luck:
RNG is good for creating variety of loot drops and things like that in games, but games that require very little user input and are almost entirely luck, I just don't see the appeal. It's almost like watching a movie where you have a tiny bit of say in how things play out, but it's mostly luck.
Game shows are some of the best example of luck being too big a factor. Some game shows are better at making it not so random, but it just kind of annoys me how everyone cheers at the participants' choices in these games. I get the excitement, but when that choice barely affects the game and luck is the biggest factor, I just don't see the point. I understand the excitement of a good loot drop in RNG, but you can affect your luck somewhat by getting a bigger sample (more loot). In Game show games, you make a random choice and luck(or prerigging) already determine a lot of it, and any bad luck can just end your game immediately. Again, may be fun to watch, but it must feel pretty helpless for the participants who could either win 10s of 1000s of dollars, or get sent home in 2 minutes, almost always based on luck.
I know a lot of Heartstone fans will hate me for this, but this is another game where the randomness can be too high. It should be (almost) impossible for a top level player to lose to a complete beginner, but the degree of randomness is so high that you can see pro streamers losing to random people all the time.
But let's not focus on Heartstone specifically, What kind of games do you feel the randomness kind of ruins the enjoyment?
