I got my Gf into league she was super pumped she loved playing it with me until PVP... even in early level People are toxic and yelling insults and telling everyone is bad... How did this community became so toxic.... Why won't people help eachother instead of being mean ?... I'm starting to regret getting her into league

after a while you build up a resistance. I barely notice if someone is insulting me anymore except when it makes me laugh. if she really cant handle it just have her mute everyone.

I suppose your GF is around level 10-20. These are the worse levels. They basically are full of : "I have to level up a new account because I have been banned."

Really? She "cried" ?

I know saying welcome to the internet would be an understatement and isn't really fair but is she 8 or something? Does she not play any other game online?

Just mute them until you are out of the ass elo, this isn't hard to do, stop riding the "Oh this community is just TOXXXXICCC now" bandwagon.

lol my gf plays league and does a pretty good job of dealing with toxic assholes. your gf must be too nice of a person. unlock her gamer rage and all will be well

The sad truth is that there are people in this world that are only happy when they view someone else as "below them". At the moment this person happened to be your GF and I am sorry for that. I wish there was a way to stop this from happening but to be honest the only solution is to ignore them like the idiots they are. Tell your GF not to give up on league just because the league community gave up on her.

Blancmark4/14/2015, 10:33:16 AM3 votes

Ignore the people who tell her to get a thicker skin or build up resistance to toxicity. It doesn't work that way for everyone. I've been playing for over a year and I certainly haven't built up resistance. I doubt I ever will, either, for it's not who I am, and I don't feel like I have to deal with people's toxicity every time I play. "It's part of the game", my butt. It shouldn't be. It's why I generally mute everyone at the start of the match myself.

It's what your gf should do, too. Just use pings to receive and send messages. Or if you must, you can type without needing a response. Just a simple "help me" or "retreat". No shame in that at all. It certainly works for me.

I know it ain't the best teamwork, but random people usually aren't the best at teamwork anyway. It's not ranked, not a ranked team, and not friends, so whatever. Those very same toxic players would probably consider it "bad behaviour", but if you ask me, I'd rather win a game with minimal communication than lose a game because some dick in my team can't stop spitting toxic goo at me and others. And since you can't control the as shatter of others, take preemptive measures and mute them, as that is within your control.

Just my two gold pieces.

Pro tip: Show her some more casual games. Moba's are a bad idea imo. Almost every moba community is toxic since players think if they don't win in-game they die irl.

I got a friend who I just recently introduced to League, and I've been doing my best to teach him how to play. I would love it if you and your girlfriend could join us in games! I'm worried that my MMR is affecting the games too much for my friend, putting him against opponents in low silver, when he just got to level 10 on his account. Having more newbie people on our team will help with MMR issues I hope. (We're Eastern time zone and have plans to play together tomorrow evening).

My boyfriend got me started on the game, and my first few games got comments like "omg is this person a bot?" and "sbsp13668 is your username no wonder you suck" (best username ever; they're just jelly!). It never made me cry because those people don't matter. Remind her that she is not playing the game to please those people, she's doing it for you. So, your behaviour with her is the only thing that matters! :)

Mute button is beautiful!!!

Double Rainbow4/14/2015, 2:17:29 PM2 votes

I know that feel. I cried too, when I first started playing League. We were playing AI vs bots and some guy started to flame that I was a noob, should uninstall and wanted to report me. I felt bad, because I had a feeling that I will never become good at this game and I will be flamed constantly. But I'm happy now that I didn't quit because of that, my skill improved and I gained more confidence, so now even when someone is raging, I'm not taking it that personal.

the internet shows peoples true nature. just a reminder then humans suck

Crett4/14/2015, 3:53:10 PM2 votes

Just do what I do. Make a circle of people you can trust not to be asses to you in-game, and invite them all to every queue. There are people who've lost touch with their sense of empathy playing this game, and you'll have to mute them when you encounter them Don't say "muted" when you do it, though, that might get them upset which may affect their gameplay, etc.

Your gf may be playing with other new players who come from different gaming backgrounds where negative behavior might be more lenient. Let your gf know that those players are some of the first to be introduced to reform and offered help towards giving back more pleasant moments for others. For now, I recommend playing with her as much as possible, and help her to focus more on the mechanics of the game for now, and ease into player interaction. What do you think about that?

To piggyback on sbsp13668, my bf recently started playing also and we'd be happy to play with you guys!

Ophelmark4/14/2015, 6:54:04 PM2 votes

If you have some buddies already that you knew they good people.Tell her to add them and play only when they are available.Problem solved.Look i understand that people react differently when they get treated bad.Nothing wrong with that.Just try your best to protect her.

RainbowIcee4/14/2015, 10:45:06 PM2 votes

play with her and support her (: there's a lot of losers that make new accounts and play vs the new comers to feel superior to them because they can't handle a challenge. Then they get mad at new comers learning.

Sirsir4/14/2015, 1:55:37 PM2 votes

Well to be fair you really shoulda warned her about this. Its not like League toxicity is a big secret. "Oh by the way, a lot of these people can be pretty mean, mute button is right here."

Side note, try to give her pointers. I spent a good 2 weeks ulting minions in bots before someone told me it was a bad thing. It helps to reduce toxicity if you give them the least amount of reasons.

Shogunai4/14/2015, 9:02:10 PM1 votes

You got to remember that league is a part of everyday society. The same people that are in the world play this game an the world isn't a nice place. I agree with a previous poster, if you or her run across so nice people an that will help her add them, there are some very friendly people in the league community. There are more than many may think but sometimes it takes time to find them an your more likely to run into some real toxic people. I have found 1 friend on here that I've played with for about a year now an became friends with IRL so it is possible an he's help me a lot of learning the game. If you or her need any help find me in game, I don't know what her strength an weaknesses are nor what role she plays but, I can help in anyway possible. The more people offer to help an be friendly the more enjoyable the game experience will become.

Proof?

Daen4/14/2015, 11:38:32 PM1 votes

Unfortunately, low level play is particularly bad because of the incredibly low barrier to entry. Players that get banned can create a new account and be back to playing the game within five minutes, and it can take twenty levels or so for the smurf account to finally get removed. At level 30 the toxicity falls off quite a bit, but in a competitive game where one teammate can doom everyone else there's going to be some friction.

Truly Prideful4/14/2015, 3:17:17 PM1 votes

This is the reason I can't get people to play this game. A majority of them quit while leveling because the community is just so bad along with the insane requirements to buy runes / champions.

Xietnin4/14/2015, 10:41:15 PM1 votes

Hi Loui, here's some helpful things I look back to in my experience: LoL is a competitive game. There are real people on the enemy team, and they want to win as much as your team does. Everyone hates having a bad time. When someone tries to care about their team and makes sure they're having a good time, its hard for them to be negative. Give the benefit of the doubt. If your support is saying somewhere along the lines of "Wow, your engage was horrible", consider that you may have made a mistake there, be the bigger person, and apologize. Although it might not even be true, and perhaps your engage was even "flawless", showing others that you care about their opinion should keep them on your side. Everyone is human, unless they're a bot. Especially Annie Bot, that thing is the devil. =)

AMYS GRAVE4/14/2015, 11:06:05 PM1 votes

It's the main reason why i wouldn't invite many people to play the game.
