Is there a good (and free) recording software?

I'm interested in making and editing videos, but i cant find any good recording software. I'm looking for something that will allow me to record my League of Legends gameplay, but not to some other internet server. I want it to record to my own computer so i can put it into my editing software and upload my gameplay videos elsewhere. Are there any recommendations or recording software that are up to these standards?
