Can we talk about Riot's Net Worth?

I feel like there's a lot of shade in the business side of things over at Riot. Especially where funds are allocated.

The thing that sparked my interest in this was researching Riot's net worth back in 2015 because I felt that they were pulling too many schemes in a row to make money, namely the Project Overdrive era and Bilgewater thing at the time [just for more recent examples: hextech crafting and the removal of lunar revel shops], and this was the time I decided to look up how much they were making off of players because things like this bothered me especially when matchmaking has never been a pleasant experience, which still to this day is in need of some serious fine tuning.

It's freaking 2017 and there are no recent public records that give us the number of what Riot is working with. The closest is an estimate given in 2015 that estimates $1.6 Billion.

Believe me, I know they have no obligation to release this data to the public but. . .

In all honesty, I think they don't want to be held accountable for the Billion+ dollars they are making and spending now, which may be near or over $2 billion, going off of the 2015 estimate and considering their growth since 2014 when they broke $1 billion. I believe releasing their new worth would actually spark some changes like LCS players pushing for higher pay, which they should really fight for. It's the number one e-sport around, but they don't get paid like it. And again, there are things Riot puts more money into than others, like art and development over the fine tuning of common matchmaking or revival of The Tribunal that would help immensely with sorting out the toxic community.

I don't know, it's just been bothering me. Feel free to down vote this into oblivion. Thanks for reading!

I don't think they pay the lcs players, the shops were closed because they aren't ready for the beta client, the project and bilgewater event just happened to cooincide, also you're one of those "Oh riot's just a cash grab operation" people aren't you?

Look at their business model, they sell mostly aesthetics. Why shouldn't the majority of their money go back into art and development? If hey don't invest in what is making them money they will ultimately lose margins. Its a free game and if you have that mindset when playing the game, i don't know how you can be anything but impressed with the quality of your experience, in fact it is well beyond the ability of many games you pay subscriptions for.
