AD Malzahar etc. (One For All)

Am I wrong here? Is this a legit deal? To play a REALLY AP-centric champ as AD in this mode? I understand having a counter to MR or Armor in reverse situation, but is it really necessary? Seems like every time someone does this it's because they didn't get to play an AD champ and got out-rolled.

I also know champs like MissFortune or Ezreal are perfect for going either way... but champs like Malzahar?

AD Malz is about objective control, not necessarily killing people (although I believe that triple is mine). Voidlings scale off AD hard, and will aggro neutral camps.
