flash is broken

Was playing soraka support and under multiple times i was pressing flash ability to escape enemy teams engage range but it refused to activate allowing the enemy team to engage on me and chase me down. It happened 5 times, flash was off cooldown and was ready to use and i wasn't under any cc effects, so I am very confused why it wouldn't activate as i was pressing it trying to escape enemy teams engage abilities before they hit me.
