The great disappointment of hitting diamond.

I worked really hard to hit diamond five, the first season I played was season three briefly and I played very hard for the silver border, and got silver 3 in about 100 games, I was so proud of that silver border. Season 4 was going to be my season, I had my sights set on gold, and after a long vicious fight I got gold, I still remember the match that got me in, it was one hell of a game with Blitzcrank . Getting gold was a big deal for me, I had already surpassed the rank of all my friends that started me on the game and it made me feel like I really accomplished something.

This season I started in Gold, and after 400 or so games, plus making my main Zed im currently in diamond five.

Diamond Five is the most unsatisfying rank in the entire game despite it being the top 1.97 percent of 1.7 million players in NA (34k) http://www.lolsummoners.com/stats/na Whenever I play a normals game, half the time someone brings up my rank if I get killed, especially if i'm trying new things in a normal's and do not play to my rank. Usually to the tone of "killed the diamond lel how much the boost cost"

Pretty much 90% of the games I play in normals my rank is mentioned when i dont even want it brought up. Everytime I win people go out of their way to flame me and call me a booster, usually along the lines of "not that good kid". When I play ranked in diamond five its the most toxic flaming elo I have yet to encounter, and even tho i have high hopes for myself as a player, diamond is most likely as high as im gonna go due to the time commitment I cannot invest anymore.

Its been a fun ride, but i think im done with ranked competitively as the pay off border and skin anyone in gold gets too is pretty weak since everyone dismisses your rank anyway. Dont get me wrong, everything about the game I really enjoy, and still have a fondness for the lower elo struggles, but when you finally get towards the top the feeling is just "meh". Yorick

What are your thoughts? do you disagree? agree? should there be more recognition of rank? should there be none? should chat be in the game? what rank are you and what is your goal? leave a comment please im just curious what other players think.

(SIDE NOTE) Also still salty about the dunkey ban, anyone who survives to pool of toxic and annoying people climbing any elo should be outright rewarded and talking trash to some feeding malphite who's ruining the game for 9 players should not be a ban-able offense, just take chat out of the game if you hate it so much riot.

tldr; im just a little upset that the payoff for high achievement in this game is super low

Platinum 5. The climb was enjoyable and honestly less toxic as I continued to climb. I was a player who filled roles and played what the team needed. I think that fact alone stalled toxicity. Everyone was somewhat happy. Now that I'm platinum I've taken A little break from ranked. And I have noticed the normal game Flamers when I am trying new champions or creative builds. But the struggle isn't done. I want diamond. I do think that there's a possibility that toxicity will increase as my elo will rise. I guess ultimately you just have to play to enjoy. And play for your benefit. Don't worry about those guys who act like that. They are unhappy for different reasons completely. And if they take the time to make a statement towards you or your rank that should be a compliment in itself. You made it to diamond. You struggled. They did not. They don't know how it is. Let them flame. They probably won't ever know the commitment you made towards a project you loved. Lastly, those guys probably think they deserve higher elo and better numbers. But they didn't take the time to identify the problems within their own actions and their attitude towards the game and others. You did. Enough said man. Congratulations on diamond. I hit diamond 4 the other day, your right though. Once i hit diamond 5 it was the most unsatisfying thing i ever done, plat 5 felt better.

I'm currently a Wood 8 player and once I decide to actually buy more rune pages instead of impulsively buying champions I will never use, I hope to start my climb up the Rank Ladder. Seriously, 4 years of playing and I still own 2 Rune pages and Rune Collection is Meh at best. I just hope that when I do decide to start Ranked I don't succumb to toxicity an asshole.

I haven't experienced what you have, but that might be because I go against ex challegers and masters in normals. Diamond 5 is where the elo boosters end up, or I think they do from what I've seen. This is why I'm going to stop playing for a month and come back when I'm about to decay, sad days :( I tried really hard to reach diamond but when I did...I didn't feel happy or not as happy as I did when I reached plat :,(

It's weird how the toxic community in LoL work. Bronze dies once "Lel, Bronze V? What a scrub, git gud, gg ez!" Diamond dies once "Lel, you died? What a scrub, you probably bought your account, I deserve challenger" No matter what rank you are they always find a way to put you down.

Fun fact: Lyte said that there was no Malphite in the game Dunkey was banned for.

I was silver 4 when I played ranked last season, I hit my promos twice and failed twice, I was getting volatile and really upset too much so I decided Ranked wasn't for me.

Part of me wants to try again next season (especially now that I started streaming) but I gotta make sure I can enjoy it 1st.

Currently working hard to get better so i can get to gold someday. I don't think i'll ever get to diamond.

But yeah, of course strangers use your rank against you, just be proud to show your friend and don't mind the rest. Just be the nice and modest person you are and you'll keep the harassement to a minimum. If anyone mention your rank early, just say you're not as good as you were

That wasn't trash-talking. What he said was not okay in any circumstances. Telling someone they should be gunned down is not trash-talking in any sense :V Malphite definitely deserved a ban tho, but I'm just saying Dunkey wasn't 100% innocent either.

But otherwise, really liked your post. Sorry to hear that it's a disappointment up there, it would be nice if Riot had kind of nicer rewards for higher ranks beyond a flashier border. Yeah, I'm silver, but I'm just giving my two cents.

I ran into the same shit last season...

I hit diamond and anytime i wanted to just relax in a normals people just talk so much shit, and they're so salty that they don't have plat even, W/e it doesn't phase me as much as it seems to phase you. But the way i think about it is they talk shit because we're doing bad and we still got diamond, goes to show that they're much worse than us.

It's a game... it's supposed to be fun.. If it isn't fun either do something else or do what you need to in order to make it fun.

Personally, I no longer check rank... or anything while loading.. When I play. I play the game as it comes.
