Earning Captain Gangplank skin while he is disabled?

So, riot kills GP, then says hes coming back(obviously) with a skin for those who play him.

However he is still disabled, so how is anyone supposed to play him to earn the skin for when he comes back? It is a catch-22.

What gives?
