Strange Symbols on the Rift

So in the PBE update for the 28th, our lord and savior Moobeat revealed strange, orange symbols in certain places on the Rift that glow when you mouse over them. Could this be related to a new champion, maybe it's related to Summoner's Rift like Maokai is to the Twisted Treeline. Maybe it's related to a new event like the Shurima Ascension in September. Perhaps, and probably the most unlikely, a new item of some sorts. Or maybe it was just added for new lore reasons.

I would love to hear your speculations, bring this up on Reddit or something.
