League Launcher reported by avast fix. 2/12/2016

So for some odd reason my avast reported my LOL client as a malware threat and hears how to get you back on the rift :)

  1. In your system tray (generally bottom right) find your "avast" icon
  2. Right click and select "Virus Chest"
  3. Locate your "LOLLauncher.exe" and Right click
  4. Select "Restore and Add to exclusions" which will prompt a popup
  5. Choose "Yes" to add your LOLLauncher.exe to global exclusions
  6. (Optional step may not be needed) If prompt to overwrite existing LOLLauncher Choose "Yes"
  7. close avast and Relaunch League as normal :)

Hope this helps anyone having this issue. See you back on the Rift :)

A few of us are working on making sure this won't happen again.

EDIT: Not 100% sure about the behavior of the issue, so redacted. I'll make sure to find someone who does understand the behavior better and can keep it from happening.

Edit: For those who still cant get leauge running a vast may of deleted your lollauncher if so here's a backup of one :)

I've been having issues where I can't run avast at the same time as LoL. I go to start the game nothing pops up till I shut off avast. I even put it on my safe programs list .__.

where is virus chest? In my system tray, I went to click on the arrow that displays some icons. Avast was there and I right clicked it, but no "Virus Chest" option was found?

Nevermind, I opened it directly from avast. To anyone wondering how to do this, go to the avast user interface > scan > scan for viruses > at the bottom there is something that says "Quarantine (Virus Chest)"

Hmm.

Try this one :)

From the main menu, select Scan, then Scan for viruses, and then click the Quarantine (Virus Chest) button at the bottom of the screen to open the Virus Chest window from the main interface.

Mine never showed the LeagueofLegend.Exe Thanks Avast You're going in the re-install list. To be frank it never showed any of the league of legend files/.executable

I accidently deleted LolLauncher.exe from the virus chest. What do i do now? It still wont open and its too late now to restore and add to exclusions.

Dont worry ill get a copy of my lolClient for you to download and add back to your folder. then run league and let avast report it as a false positive and just follow my guide on how to get it fixed :)

This seems to be fixed now (checked VirusTotal and my own VM): https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/1b6f8899408b88059ff568890cd33eb64d7be73ff1ea22829ba34eb244d63f0d/analysis/

Anyone else able to verify? I am showing definition version 160212-1. Right-click the icon in the system tray and choose "About Avast" then look at the "Virus definitions version." If it's showing an older version, try updating manually: right-click the tray icon again and choose "Update -> Engine and virus definitions."

To really verify you will unfortunately need to remove your exemption, which may of course quarantine the Launcher again if it's not really fixed. item 3070

Just now. I had to walk a friend through this using these directions. My guess is Avast had already shoved it into the virus chest. Anyway of contacting avast and having them autoremove League from everyone's virus chest>

He's probably using a slightly out of date version. SOrry im not able to confirm which he has.

Just had this problem (LoL being flagged as malware by Avast) happen again tonight. Was able to restore and exclude from the Virus Chest.

And if the virus chest doesn't contain the launcher? I've already rebooted and added exception, but it's still blocking it, so I assume Avast did something that exempting League didn't undo.

The latest a vast update should allow league to launch properly :) just try a restart and then reopen league and it should go :)

It might have been the update that caused it.* Avast updated over an hour ago, which is ~20mins before League was blocked, not that that makes much sense. I fail to understand why Avast would SUDDENLY block it anyway if it's been running this whole time on a supposedly unfixed version. I play daily.

*Don't quote that, though, anyone. Wouldn't want to start a panic.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that either something broke when Avast blocked it, or Avast is still blocking it and I don't know how to find it. It's not in the chest, it's not a specifically blocked or quarantined program in any way, and it doesn't pop up since I added it to the exceptions lists. Avast cited this folder specifically, though I don't remember if there was a specific file or not:

C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\RADS\projects\lol_launcher\releases\0.0.1.10

It never put it in the chest, and the folder is still there, at least. I have it set not to delete anything it finds, so I'm lost. Probably just going to reinstall.

It may have been set to delete any potential viruses from your computer after a small time frame. If so I have a Google drive link to a lollauncher backup and all you have to do is add it to the correct folder :)

i'm not having this problem with avast, however i am running the free version of avast.

Free version or paid I do be live they are the same. You may have already received the latest a vast update. You might try restarting your pc and relaunching league :)

Running free as well. It's run fine until just now, and suddenly League is a virus. Oops.

I'm posting this because it might help somebody else with the same problem:

After Avast falsy blocked LOL, it forced me to reboot and do a root scan. Afterwards, LOL would not startup. There was nothing related to LOL in my quarintine fault to unblock. I had to delete the directory [lol_launcher] in [League of Legends] -> [rads] -> [projects]. Only then LOL would startup again.

bamboo i think i love u so so so so much i literally tried everything from dns change 8.8.8.8 88.4.4 to flush dns to updating avast to deactvating firewall, to checing virus quarintine to updating definations of viruses, all i had to do was ur intructions and it fuckn opened!!!!!!!! i love u dude sorry for swearing but fuuukkkk lol

Heya Surferboy, I only read your comment just now because I am not very active on the boards. Glad it solved your problem as well .However, you did made my wife jealous with your announcement of your love for me haha :)

PS: I removed Avast like 2 months ago. I had the free version and found out (/duh @ me) that I have 3 licences of F-secure included in my ISP subscription. Never had any problems with LOL or other game anymore.

I had a similar issue but it wasn't avast causing it. I'm not sure what caused it actually I tried the RADS fixes and checked my virus chest. I ended up deleting my league of legends replay folder and then it worked.

i had this happen to me too, and i wish i had seen this yesterday. the way i fixed it was by deleting both avast and league and then reinstalling them.

i did all that now it is making me redownload the game or patches and still cant play the game now

Thank you for this because I just got hit with this error today and it was dumb that avast kept marking this as a threat even though it does nothing.

So i just got this issue and i've been trying for an hour to fix it. I've followed the steps above and the avast guide for unblocking a program and nothing is working at all. The files remain in the chest even though they're excluded.
