Help me! Champion crisis and jungling

I am so addicted to this game and find it so fun but I have no idea what champion to choose! I have tried many but, as always, I get 10 or more deaths and no kills. 1/9/0 is a good game for me :(. I have seen other players doing really well with lots of different champions and when I try them out I don't do as well. The only champion I well with is Riven, (average game I do about 4/8/0) which really confuses me, because on her profile page, it tells me she is one of the highest difficulty champions to use. So can someone please:

  1. Suggest a good** ranged **champion with good damage and can stun/slow/hold in place
  1. Suggest a good **melee **champion with high damage and doesn't deal with mana (that spell stuff is so annoying)
  2. Suggest a good all rounder that is easy for a beginner

Also if you do suggest any champs, please tell me what items are best for them.

OK now with that sorted. Can someone brief me what 'jungling' is and the effects. I know that it means going in the jungle bits and slaying the creatures that are posted around but why do people on my team do it so much, isn't killing the enemy champions better? You don't need to go in much detail, just explain the basics.

Thank you for every single positive response and contribution, because, to experienced players I probably sound like the biggest face palm, or face desk, or even face glass if you really want.

Good top laners to learn: garen, trundle, maokai, ekko. Good junglers to learn: kindred, yi, volibear, amumu, gragas. Good mids to learn: lux, malz, chogath, karma, morg. Good adcs to learn: lucian, sivir, ezreal, ashe, caitlyn. Good supps: JANNA, soraka, blitz, braum, ali.

Not all these champs are strictly meta but they are good to pick up. Hope this helps :3

Ranged: Swain. He has a point and click slow and damage spell, and an aoe stun with a short delay. His ult is also a toggleable self heal. (Some of this will change just a little bit during the next patch, but basically the same).

Melee: Shen. Even though he has an energy resource, he is fairly simple to play. He has a dash and two self abilities. Plus, his ultimate will help you learn to pay attention to the rest of your team.

All Around Good: Rammus or Amumu. Rammus can be played both top and jungle, and Amumu mostly just jungle. Both of them usually are built full tank (maybe with an abyssal scepter) and don't have a lot of hard skills. In fact, between the two the hardest skill is amumu's Q.

Jungling So, I'm a jungle main. Let me give you a run down of how jungle works. Your main goals are: (no particular order)

  1. Farm -- You must be able to rotate between jungle camps and know when they will reappear. This is one of the most important things to understand, because you have to fit all the other things in between this.

  2. Gank -- Ganking isn't just walking into a lane to kill a laner with the help of your team. You can gank from the lane itself, you can gank from the side, you can even gank from BEHIND them. Overall, it's YOUR decision who to gank, not the laners'. However, you don't want to spend all your time ganking, and you don't want to spend all your time farming.

  3. Objectives -- Dragon and Herald (Baron). It's pretty much your job to call when to do those two things, and usually you want to do them when the enemy jungler is dead, when you just ganked the lane near it (bot or top), or when you have vision.

  4. Invade -- Invading is when you go into the enemy jungle and either steal their camps or kill them. The way to do this safely is to HAVE VISION. If you see their jungle ganking bot, you can invade their top jungle. But if you see the mid laner disappear all of a sudden, it means they know you are there and they are coming. Know where the enemy is and sneak around accordingly.

  5. Vision -- Everything above combined. ALWAYS have a pink ward on the map (usually in the mini river bush) and even buy the ward jungle item. VISION WINS GAMES.

Your job is to balance all of these and do them in an efficient and helpful way that will most likely decide if your team wins.

15 lane cs is equal to a kill for a lane, and it's less for jungle because jungle camps are worth more. Balance kills and farm
